A group of moderates, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), met with McConnell Friday afternoon to hash out strategy to end the trial.
In response to the concerns of moderates who want to follow the model of the 1999 Clinton impeachment trial, which set up 25 hours of closed-door deliberations, Senate GOP leaders floated the idea of having time for deliberations starting Monday. But under one proposal senators would have gotten 10 minutes each to speak on the articles of impeachment against Trump.

Seriously what is to deliberate..Trump did NOTHING wrong..Biden and his crack addict son are the ones that should have to answer for what they did
Whatever. This will be done by next week
Nothing any senator says for 10 minutes is gonna change anybody’s mind.
Even the bolton trick didn’t work.
They wanted to screw with the SOTU address. In this they succeeded.
True.
The Dems are going to be very nasty during the SOTU. Their true, ugly colors will shine.
I wanted a Victory Lap with Nancy and the Squad wearing all black.
I don’t understand what these 4 have in mind, Are they getting bridges built (for example) in their state in exchange for not holding out against their supposed party?
They appear to be seat holders and nothing more
It is what the NYT will LIE AND LEAK before then that causes all the problems!!!
Ten minutes each is too long. That’s 16 hours of talking - plus there will be the time between each speaker. I’d suggest two minutes each - that’s the time it takes to deliver the Gettysburg Address. They OUGHT to be able to distill their thoughts into two minutes. That’s probably asking too much of them though, so 5 minutes.
I have never been more ashamed of being an American in my life. This is such a freaking clown show. The world is watching how dysfunctional our lawmakers are.
I’m sure we will get an extra dose over the weekend of “EXPLOSIVE NEW REPORTS” from Fake News.
Do they imagine that there will be VIEWERS tuned in to each of these fools bloviating for 10 full minutes????
Why do these petulant malcontents get to be called “moderates”?
Lets wait to see what actually happens before believing everything we read.
Agreed.
Nancy and the Squad all wearing clown suits.
there should have been a vote tonight. and done. period.
The GOP is a useless bunch.... to get... the rules for impeachment require that any debate among senators take place in secret...bet they cave again
Well it looks like Susan Collins is toast...someone should primary her..
From Fox News
While they won’t get the witnesses, Democrats want to ensure senators take the time to debate the issue anyway — and in public.
Mitch McConnell wants this over as fast as possible with as little attention as possible, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said Friday. Thats why today Im going to fight to ensure the American people can hear our deliberations.
Brown has teamed up with Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., on two motions to prevent closed-door deliberations and force senators to explain their votes in public.
Unlike typical Senate votes, the rules for impeachment require that any debate among senators take place in secret. Each senator can speak for 10 minutes apiece on a vote on witnesses and 15 minutes each on the final question of whether or not to acquit the president.
The Impeachment lowered us to the status of Mexico and other corrupt third world “nations” where they routinely arrest each other, stage coups and counter coups, and other absurd crap.
Romney is from Mexico. He’s still got family there in the polygamy settlements and if anyone thinks they don’t have any influence in Utah I invite you to drive down 90th South in Sandy and note all the houses with 9 bedrooms and 10 car parking lots.
So he thinks like them, as does the church hierarchy.
That’s why he’s down with this disgusting descent into Banana Republicanism, and that’s all you need to know to explain his act.
