She controls the speakership by virtue of her power to raise money and distribute it to obedient caucus members for reelection. AOC has demonstrated to the world that there are other sources of money and the power of Nancy Pelosi to intimidate or subsidize has been revealed to be illusory because there is another game in town.
Pelosi's second source of power was that she acted as the bell mare for the feminist movement in the Democrat party which is, along with African-Americans, the foundation of all Democrat electoral chances. Only the truest of believers, those women who fell on their knees and howled at the announcement that Donald Trump had won the election, can see her as anything but a spent force.
Judging from the turnout in southern New Jersey for the Trump rally, my best guess nine months before the election is that the Democrats will lose the House. Nancy Trump is desperately trying to evade the fallout from the impeachment fiasco but even with the help of the media, which she will certainly get, enough of the American people have reached a judgment and she will be seen by both Democrats and Republicans, and by feminists as well, as the woman who played politics with impeachment.
