Fighting the new coronavirus has been a battle against the unknown for doctors.
...
Now, an account by medics on the front line of this epidemic, at the Jinyintan Hospital, in Wuhan, is starting to provide answers.
A detailed analysis of the first 99 patients treated there has been published in the Lancet medical journal.
Lung assault All of the 99 patients taken to the hospital had pneumonia - their lungs were inflamed and the tiny sacs where oxygen moves from the air to the blood were filling with water.
Other symptoms were:
82 had fever 81 had a cough 31 had shortness of breath 11 had muscle ache nine had confusion eight had a headache five had a sore throat

So it is roughly as dangerous as being a Clinton associate?
That’s a logical guess. I’m sure they can’t afford to take the doctors off the front lines to write papers. I was just reading the paper in a bit more detail - just doing all the background workup on 99 patients is amazing.
That’s sad about the docs breaking down. They must be absolutely overwhelmed.
I haven’t found one either.
If you do, please post it on the main thread.
We’re all interested in that number. Especially from nonChina hospitals (Japan, France, Germany, etc)
The flu has a huge reservoir of hosts and is already out there. Tens of millions get it every year in the US alone. For every 1000 persons that get the flu 1 dies, 999 recover (or something fairly similar). For this thing 8000 people have been confirmed infected, 171 have died, or out of every 1000 people, 21 have died, and only 143 have officially recovered. We still don’t yet know the fate of the other 7700ish who are still sick. And it is more contagious and spreads faster.
So dismissing this as similar to the flu is at best premature. It’s a different beast. Pooh-poohing others’ concerns seems uninformed.
10% dead.
57% still in hospital beds.
This will overwhelm any medical system anywhere.
The only unanswered question is the transmission rate, for which I’ve seen informed (medical) speculation that each infected person will likely spread to 3 others. Anyone have better info on that?
If all of the above turn out to be correct, we will either generate a vaccine in time, or experience something unworldy.
Had the flu blow through a school I work at this year. In two days, several dozen kids were puking in the halls. Probably 20% absenteeism for a week.
I’m beginning to wonder if the primary is a virulent pneumonia (do we know if it was viral pneumonia or bacterial pneumonia?) and the secondary is corona? That is, is corona actually a low level chronic infection? The Chinese treated for flu with Tamilflu instead of treating pneumonia and pneumonia killed the deceased? China is claiming that 80% of the cases are ‘mild’ - that is, no pneumonia and they’re still alive. Is it possible?
“accidental release from the lab “?
purposeful release from the lab?
And we think of guys like Dahmer as a serial killer.
Some nutcase from the Chi-Coms bio warfare center in Wuhan province???
I saw the videos of some doctors freaking. But China also made a big deal of drafting 6000 doctors to report to Wuhan, complete with full-page newspaper spreads. So have they replaced the original doctors and sent them home to rest, or, where are those 6000 doctors?
This settles it, Im not drinking anymore Corona.
You laugh, but Ill bet they are bracing for a drop in sales and have already contacted a rebranding firm.
Anyone remember Ayds Candy for weight loss?
Some Hong Kong doctors did some modeling of the data about 5 days ago. Their models showed that the quarantine of Wuhan did not reduce the rate of spreading very much (It was too late). They also said that if it can be transmitted human to human, transportation within and out of China should be restricted. Which no doubt is also too late now.
The doctors in Hong Kong that were doing research on it didn’t have much sleep either. The head guy said something like “I have only had their report for an hour, but time is critical, so thank you for coming to hear about it. They spent the last four days working on it with no sleep.”
and 647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year. Not sure what your point is?
Yeah - it just the average run of the mill flu - no one should get too excited which is why Xi and the CCP quarantined several cities with 55 million people; called out the PLA for its second venture after Tiananmen Square in ‘89 when it murdered 10,000 people, outfitted some troops in L4 full Bio-suits; destroyed 5% of their economy; closed their stock market; made a show of building 2 trailer hospitals for 2000 patients; dug up roads between cities, and much more we will hear about later. This over reaction explains why the Russians are in full panic mode closing the Sino-Russo border to all traffic. Even Putin’s got the panic bug.
So its just the ordinary flu which maybe 1 million Chinese die from every year. So lets not take any of the hype seriously - the Chinese CCP is just overreacting, and are fully open and honest with the world about their numbers, and how silly it is to panic over something so ordinary.
Ah. Anti-flu. My mistake
It is possible and I wouldn’t put it past the Chinese or the globalists to crash the global economy any way they can to get rid of POTUS.
