White House has issued formal threat to Bolton to keep him from publishing book

Washington (CNN)The White House has issued a formal threat to former national security adviser John Bolton to keep him from publishing his book, "The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir," sources familiar with the matter tell CNN. In a letter to Bolton's lawyer, a top official at the National Security Council wrote the unpublished manuscript of Bolton's book "appears to contain significant amounts of classified information" and couldn't be published as written. The letter, which is dated January 23, said some of the information was classified at the "top secret" level, meaning it "reasonably could be expected to cause exceptionally grave harm to the national security."

"The manuscript may not be published or otherwise disclosed without the deletion of this classified information," the letter read.

The White House had no comment. Neither Bolton nor a spokesman for the publisher, Simon & Schuster, responded to a request for comment.

No, it had to be sent to the WH for clearance. Simon-Shuster would insist since he signed an NDA.

This is standard procedure. And from the 30,000 FT view, I’m suspecting the leaker was NOT named Vindman... probably Bolton himself. Might explain the soil he’s standing on right now.

Would not put it past the NYT to completely make up stuff damaging to Trump. Then, when the book comes out, and it’s not in it, they can (would) say the government forced Bolton to remove the damaging material. The low information crowd (as well as the media/Dims...it’s a given) would then scream “coverup”.

This feels like scripted theater.

Zinman’s twin Yevgeny apparently was the leaker. Bolton submitted the manuscript to the NSC as required for pre-vetting, and then Zinman or someone else leaked something, possibly what the NYT said, possibly just that there was a book. Now the NSC has said it can’t be published as presently drafted. So Bolton can either not publish it, or delete the objectionable material and then publish it.

Cool, now Bolton’s book will look like somebody blacked out every third word with a magic marker. Good luck selling that $hit!

“White House has issued Formal Threat”.... The headline is super misleading and dramatic, IMHO.

I wonder if that manuscript was even really intended to be published, but rather intended for the sole purpose of getting at President Trump.

Still, my question wasn’t answered. Did Bolton used editors and publishing agents that were cleared for Top Secret information? If not, he should go to jail.

Don’t forget a soldier spent one year in jail for taking a picture of a submarine. This is far worse.

It would be crazy if you write a book you can provide Top Secret information to any editor or publishing agents without them have a Top Secret Clearance.

Obviously he got help from the democrats to write and publish the book. The dems timed the release of the book. The dems will reward him handsomely for writing it.

What? you thought he wrote it on his own without help?

Would be great if someone releases a stolen copy of the book online. Rumor is that there are half a dozen copies out there.

Can they arrest him for dishonoring his oath of office? Maybe send in the FBI and break down his door? I know, I’m dreaming.

Not sure about that since there is a process in place where the WH gets to approve (or not) of the contents of any book written by employees or ex employees. Perhaps the publishers are bound by whatever the WH decides.

That said I don’t get why the WH shouldn’t get first and exclusive review of any book written by someone like Bolton before it is released to publisher.

Doesn’t matter since NYT now has a copy of the manuscript I assume the original with classified information.

It’s not we demand the return of it and like they won’t make a copy of it.

Yeah, like the FBI is going to raid his house like they did Rogers. He could claim he didn’t leak. Have to prove he did. But, hell, they probably wiped his computer and destroyed all evidence by now.

“sources familiar with the matter tell CNN” = VERY fake news = not worth considering this fake news any further unless/until a Trump administration official goes on record ...

Except the book hasn’t been released. In fact, Bolton submitted it for review to the NSC, as he was required to do. Someone there, possibly Zindman, leaked something to the NY Times, who then claimed to know the content of the book without having seen it, and revealed an “excerpt” that just happened to be the right size and shape of red herring to Kavanaugh-ize this trial. They want a rush to judgment to stampede the wobbly RINOs into voting for witnesses. A rush to judgment to pillory Bolton would not prevent that stampede. He may yet be proven to have acted honorably, although I wouldn’t take any bets either way. But stampedes and rushes to judgment are always bad.
