BEIJING - The man burst out with a shout at the last second as medical workers boarded a bus headed to Wuhan: Wang Yuehua, I love you! He sobbed, gasping, as his wife joined an emergency response team headed to the deadly new coronavirus that has killed at least 100 patients and infected more than 4,500 people across China. Reported cases are rising every day - more than 60% in the last 24 hours alone.
A nurse patted the man on the shoulder as he lowered his head, heaving. Another woman came by and murmured to him as he cried, I know, I cant control it.
The nurse next to him began to weep as well, wiping her face as the bus pulled away, loaded with colleagues and loved ones venturing on a perilous journey into an epidemic.
Shared grief, suspicion and multiplying tensions have seized this nation. Since the central government takeover of Chinas virus response last week, state media has broadcast a steady stream of inspirational reports about heroic Chinese people uniting to fight the unseen enemy, confident in the partys leadership. Over and over again, the government repeats: Trust us. Be calm. Wash your hands. Stay home.
But offscreen, Chinas virus war is grim. Silent cities sit in a white winter smog that blots out the sky, their silent, empty streets contrasting with the crowded hospitals where doctors and nurses break down because they lack equipment or rooms for the patients squeezed outside their doors.
Fear lurks in the background of even healthy peoples minds, inflated by the proximity of death, fragility of loved ones, and most of all by the unknown: where the virus comes from, how it changes, how it spreads, whether one has it or not, and whether authorities are providing the full truth.

Not good, God bless them over there. We should all be praying for them
I have this sick feeling we’re going to wake up and the death count is going to jump from 100 to 500+ or more. There are people battling for life and death, both doctor and patient, truly humbling.
Yes, it’s exponential. Doubling every 5-6 days.
My husband says one of his military friends is being told that over 10,000 are dead in China and this is based on observations of warehouses where the bodies are being stored.
The world is long overdue for a major health epidemic. Proper sanitation, clean water, vaccinations, and antibiotics have stopped the vast majority of outbreaks from overwhelming a country’s resources, however a hardy virus like this can spread even in the cleanest of environments.

I was telling someone about the market being spooked. It might be a good time to sell and do some profit taking. If the market does drop 2-4k in the next month it will surely rebound once this thing is over.
Hong Kong suspects the current infection in China is at 7,000 and there are 48,000 people being monitored who are known to have been in close contact with those infected. And if it’s contagious in the 2 week incubation period... how many more are infected from those 48,000?
We’ll see what the next couple months bring.
if anything the coronavirus will soon be coming towards you
This could become a pandemic. Thats my sinking feeling. Its spreading way too fast.
Yes, its exponential. Doubling every 5-6 days.
~~~
If it’s exponential, then the doubling time will reduce progressively.
If it just keeps doubling over the same number of days, that’s linear
10k dead would be a hella coverup. Not saying the chicoms wouldn’t cover it up, but yeah. I might be able to get some intel tomorrow night.
Wait until it hits the US and it will.
I figure another 10-14 days we will start having deaths from this virus. It took a month in China until people started keeling over.
Up until yesterday or today we allowed people to freely enter from China.
One guy flew in from China 5 days ago and he said there was people sneezing and coughing on his plane and not a single person was asked any questions or tested when they got off the plane.
He posted his boarding pass and tickets on Twitter to prove it.
See my post #10.
Sorry but that is not true, if your husband knows that then the President knows that, the media knows that. Trump would have banned all airline traffic, hell even Obama would have. I’m sorry, I know it’s a fluid situation and there are likely more dead. But if the military knows that then the President know that, if he knows that and is doing nothing then he has failed this nation like no other President ever. No, I just don’t believe that our military knows there are 10,000 dead. No disrespect to your husband either, I am sure he is a good man.
“We should all be praying for them”
Yes we should, well said.
It’s spreading slower than the flu, but it causes a much more severe illness.
If you see a news from China of a body count that seems high, remember the flu body counts in the tens of thousands in the U.S. during some years. And remember the fact that the coronavirus has been running for more than a month in China. The flu only takes a month or two to kill tens of thousands in the U.S.
That scary stuff said, I’m guessing that the coronavirus will mutate towards slowing down and be neutralized before long (see SARS, other coronaviruses).
We have our differences with the Chinese government, but my heart goes out to the Chinese people who are experiencing this situation. There is no optimal way to confront a situation like this. You do what has to be done.
I view these medial personnel as I would military going off to war. It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
Hope things level off in short order, but it doesn’t look like they will.
Sad.
