We all have to remember that if the Senate decides to start calling witnesses they are treading on the constitution. The Senate is the jury and are suppose to only hear the facts that the house managers present. They are not to call witnesses. If the Senate does, they will set a precedent that will hurt this country.
I came to the same conclusion. It seems rather easy to impeach. They were so worried about its abuse but missed a pretty simple solution for all their debate

What is required to actually call for the vote? I say Just call for the verdict and if Susan and Mitt want to vote to convict then let them. All the 5-8 who want witnesses can vote to convict and they can take that up with constituents

It’s a trial balloon. The GOP Senate is seeing if they can bully POTUS to agree to Bolton testifying. Hopefully, he’s had enough. China Mitch broke it. He can fix it.
With the exception of a small number of very good Rs in the House and Senate, Republicans don't know how to leverage their majority status. Or, maybe, they don't want to.
In either case, we've seen too many times where they outmaneuver themselves and wind up with the short end of the stick.

McConnell is only Majority Leader because he is weak and gives the mavericks plenty of room to roam. Democrats never behave in such a manner.

I suspect that even getting a simple House majority for impeachment was very difficult in the days before we devolved into a two-party system. The government of this country simply doesn’t function today the way it did for decades after it was founded.
Witnesses are not going to change anything...
GOPe are basically hacks.. .and cowards, even though Trump has shown them there is no need to fear, and fighting works. they still don’t get it.
GOPe/Globalists are telling them if you don’t call witnesses Dems will claim you covered up and that independents will believe them and it will hurt you this fall... And they are basically COWARDS and believe it.

Can you cite 2-3 examples of cases where you think they DIDN'T leverage their majority effectively?
The 17th amendment completely destroyed the Federal Government as designed, there is NO ONE now sitting at the federal level that represents the states interests....
