INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) State health officials confirm they are monitoring potential cases of the coronavirus.
Thats the deadly virus in an outbreak that started in China and has spread around the world.
News 8 said multiple people in Indiana being tested for the possibility of the deadly virus.
There are five confirmed corona virus cases in the United States. The states where the virus has been confirmed are Arizona, California, Illinois and Washington.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls the situation rapidly evolving.
Of those who have been tested in the U.S., the CDC says five people tested positive and 32 tested negative.
At this point, the virus has spread to 16 countries including the U.S.
It has been the five major airports that we knew individuals would be coming in from the China provinces, too, that have been on alert and that have been checking individuals. Now, that could change in the near future. But at this time, we are not doing anything differently at the the Indianapolis airport, said Kristina Box, State Department of Health commissioner.
As for the virus spreading to Indiana, Box said, We have multiple suspected cases that are being tested and right now all of those tests have to be sent to the CDC. Soon, all of the labs across the United States and each individual health department will be able to do this testing.
In a news conference, the CDC warned, It is likely there will be more cases reported in the U.S. in the coming days and weeks, likely including person-to-person spread.
Box said, It is very, very important that people keep this in perspective. The overall mortality rate of this looks to be about 3%. That is not good news, but it is not as onersome as some of the other coronaviruses we have seen in the past.
Indiana University, Purdue University and IUPUI have sent letters to their students regarding the virus.
The schools have a significant number of international students. None of the universities have any confirmed cases of the virus. They say they are just trying to be proactive.
They say any student who has traveled to the area of Wuhan, China, in the last 14 days or has come into contact with someone who visited there needs to see a health care provider immediately and may be placed in isolation to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
If you feel like you may be at risk for contracting the virus, you should see your health care provider immediately.

Great!!! We were in Indianapolis last weekend for a cheer competition. Thousands of parents and kids at the convention center all weekend. Hopefully the potentially infected weren’t in attendance.
The Chinese Filth Machine has struck again!
Doesn’t say locations. Could be near chicago where they have it. But more likely University.
And yes, a cheer competition could be somewhere you could catch it.
Just watch for the symptoms. If you start feeling like you have the flu start watching closely..and start looking at ways to reduce cytokine storm,,,like vitamin C, D, turmeric etc.
cheer crowd would have been around the chinese students..unless perhaps it was high school cheer teams.
also, i think some of these schools have been on break so the timing could be off. i think they are just starting to come back
“The Chinese Filth Machine has struck again!”
With the help of our government.
I was thinking this was a hoax, a deal to let China shut down a city and crush rebellion.
I now think it was a containment breach at a biological weapons facility... strangely a mile from where... someone... ate a snake. Ground zero.
The incubation period, rapid spread, coordinated response of the Chinese government, indicates this ain’t a virus that jumped from a snake to a man.
Probably a virus a man took from a snake, and weaponized.
If this thing has a high infection rate, and a 2% fatality rate... it can kill a hundred million if it gets into urban centers.
If this thing was human engineered it could kill half a billion.
Amen. Continued prayer and hoping the bark for this virus is worse than the bite.
bad news
I have read some speculation that the virus was already present in Wuhan, and jumped to the wet market.
I also have significant concerns about that bio lab.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
