Senators and Representatives cannot be “impeached.”
The House can vote to expel a Representative. And the Senate can vote to expel a Senator. But it’s not called impeachment, because it’s a different procedure with a different Constitutional basis:
Each chamber makes its own rules regarding how and why it is done. The Senate is not involved in removing a Representative. The House is not involved in the removal of a Senator.
The remark that is the subject of the OP, that is not the worst of it all. It is a small offense, a known false warning that isn’t relevent to the case.
The senators that have it right are the ones pissed at being taken for fools on the substance. It’s okay to take the public for fools, but not the senate.
