After six months of protests in Hong Kong, the new year has brought more chaos, with Tsai Ing-wen winning an election in Taiwan and disease spreading in Wuhan. Perhaps President Xi Jinping should recognise that China needs new leadership.
The new year has only brought more chaos: in addition to Tsais victory, China faces an outbreak of a coronavirus in Wuhan which has now spread to Japan, and elsewhere just as the Lunar New Year holiday is beginning.
While a ceasefire in the trade war has ostensibly been declared, the phase one deal required concessions from Beijing and may lead to the perception that Xi has caved in to Trumps demands. Indeed, Xis struggles to adapt to the situations in Hong Kong and Taiwan call into question what he has achieved as president.
Xis aggressive foreign policy in the South China Sea is sending countries in the region back to the embrace of the United States. He is seeking to buy friends in Central Asia and Africa without considering the extent to which he is overleveraging the Chinese economy.
And, all the while, he is consolidating power and paving the way to rule for life. If Xi truly cared about the future of China, he would recognise that the country really needs new leadership.
I grew up during the warlord era in China. I witnessed the Sino-Japanese war, Japanese occupation and civil war. Now, the Peoples Republic of China is 70. Through all this time, the Chinese people have been excluded from the process of selecting their own leaders. It does not appear that this will change for the foreseeable future. But I hope the Chinese people will get to decide for themselves one day, just as those in Taiwan have.

It’s as if they are cursed.
“I grew up during the warlord era in China.”
Warlord period was in the 1910’s and 20’s.
The regime in China is under huge pressure.
Its very legitimacy is under review by the Chinese people.
The Beijing Regime can’t control the world like they thought....
Three problems, and three solutions:
Hongkong: Listen to the people
Taiwan: Stop threatening them
Wuhan virus: Tell the truth
“Its as if they are cursed.”
Karma rearing it’s ugly head and China needs a bad dose of Karma
"May you live through interesting times!"
Looks like “President” Xi has lost the Mandate of Heaven. These signs point to a loss of the support of the ancient gods of China. In such times the people are urged to overthrow the Emperor and replace them. Ancient idea, a right to rebellion that each Chinese subject knows. Elitists can not keep the “centeral kingdom” from falling apart if the ruled people no longer have faith in the rulers (Communist Party).
The Chinese Communists have always ruled by campaign. Mao loved it of course, he felt it created socialist consciousness by having the government push the whole nation in one contrived direction or another.
Recent communist rulers did the same, on a different scale. The organization for the Olympics, or Shanghai Expo, or whatever. Less disruptive than Mao, but nonetheless following the same principles of forcing a narrative which allows for government control and propaganda.
I cant help think coronavirus will be the same. This problem will be solved, thanks to the great efforts and valuable presence of the CCP!

Yes. Because it’s not a huge threat and unlikely to be one. Way more die of the regular flu.
But, they get to claim to have quelled it and, most importantly, put in to dress rehearsal travel shutdown and population control plans that they would use if there ever were a mass movement threatening their rule.
Xi Jinping - Leader for life.
Until he isn’t.

That makes sense to you and I, but the problem with communism is that it is really a “state religion” and to admit any failure is to admit that the state is not perfect. It is the Achilles heel of communism.
The series Chernobyl did a great job of capturing this.
They always try to cover up any problem and while a bad virus in a large population is inevitable and is not the fault of government, they view it as a weakness of communism.
This is the world that AOC, Warren, Sanders, and others of their ilk want to force onto us.
Today’s update:
250,000 to 350,000 cases of coronavirus. Mass transit being shut down.
Xi has lost the Mandate of Heaven
Eventually the German scenario will come to China. You can keep the people down for a while but not for ever, particularly in an era of instant communications. Apple and Donald Trump may achieve what Reagan, Thatcher and the Pope achieved in the 1980s. Stay tuned.
