The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
It is not a clean country.
I refuse to believe only about 600 people in China have been infected.
They are dressed better than the average American travelers.
Perhaps if they would take advice from other sources they would understand why it is in their country:

Here in Bangkok Thailand the air pollution is that bad that school has been cancelled the last two days. Masks in public are the norm, not the exception.
The streets and public transportation are packed with people. Disease could spread like a wildfire in dried scrub pine.

People who live all crammed in together, three generations to one small house with poor ventilation, and in highly populated places like China, are at high risk.
Others, especially those who practice good hygiene, maybe not quite so much?
Could turn out like the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 or worse... or maybe not. Or perhaps the Hong Kong flu of 1968. We don't know right now...
