“Floyd County, part of God’s country”

Indeed so and a larger portion of HIS country is in the nearby Ferrum area of Franklin & Henry counties.

Been awhile since I’ve traveled it and a map isn’t much help but motoring along east of Floyd on Rt. 221, a humbling view of a valley is suddenly revealed. For me that view rivals that from atop Afton Mountain on I-64.

Though not fortunate to reside in the area, family has resided in the area for 10-11 generations. That said, my favorite spot is near Ferrum in Henry County. There’s a small community from which only trees and distant mountains are visible. Somewhat bewildering until one realizes being atop a plateau that’s the local high ground.

Ferrum: pronounced Fur-um if you are trying to blend in with the local citizenry. Otherwise in days gone by you might be mistaken for a "revanooer."
