The patriot was well within his rights and the law to brandish (and more) in response to assault. I'm not sure Massad Ayoob would agree, but I'm not an expert.
Seems to me brandishing is a bit problematic, but as I said I'm not an expert.

What would you advocate as an alternative to "brandishing" if the armed defender is openly threatened?
Do you think saying "Pretty Please, Don't Be Unkind To Me" would work?
Or just take the MAGA hat off as the attacker demanded then getting down on hands and knees to lick his boots?
