Iran's Options in Showdown with America Are All Bad

After losing its top strategist, military commander and arch-terrorist, Qassem Suleimani, the Iranian theocracy is weighing responses.

One, Iran can quiet down and cease military provocations.

After attacking tankers off its coast, destroying an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia, shooting down a U.S. drone and being responsible for the killing and wounding of Americans in Iraq, Iran could now keep quiet.

It might accept that its strategy of escalation has failed to lead to any quantifiable advantage. Trump did not prove a passive "Twitter tiger," as his critics mocked. Instead, he upped the stakes to Iran's disadvantage and existential danger.

The chances, however, for such a logical and passive readjustment by Iran are nil.

Iran believes that Trump's beefed-up sanctions have all but destroyed its economy and could now extend to secondary boycotts of nations trading with Iran. U.S. sanctions have also squeezed Iranian expeditionary efforts to forge a permanent hegemony and a Shiite crescent extending to the Mediterranean.

If unchecked, American economic pressure could eventually lead to a popular rebellion that would topple the theocracy. In sum, a return to the status quo is unlikely.

Two, Iran can agree to re-enter talks about its nuclear program and offer a few concessions.

Iran could concede that the prior agreement was designed to bank Iranian cash and nuclear expertise that would eventually lead to the country developing nuclear weaponry after a period of feigned good behavior.

JMO but I have a feeling the newly smithereened terrorist was out of control and creating havoc at will. The ayatollahs saw no other way than to have him killed and round up his buds to reestablish control.

Its just a matter of time until they try to strike via proxy. We are not dealing with a brain trust here. I’m certain PDJT is well aware of this and has more than stated to their “leadership” just how large the pile of their ashes will be if the mullahs are truly as stupid as they look.

Sorry that say that based on my experience and study that it doesn’t matter sufficiently that all their options are bad: Islam dictates that Iran et al. must react violently except when biding their time to prepare for the next strike. I haven’t the foggiest idea of what, when how, etc., so my only advice is to remember that only a small percentage of Muslims will follow the murderous dictates in the Koran, and therefore we must never take the law into our own hands against them. I know that stance frustrates many, but It is the only way we can avoid committing sin.

To be clear, my now ex-brother-in-law was too cowardly to fight himself, but he gave money to those who did. I have no connection with or sympathy for him or his support of terrorists. I just want to avoid Divine Retribution for myself and everyone else, so I encourage all to let the authorities do their job, so if you learn something pertinent, report it to them and do nothing else besides remaining vigilant: Revenge is wrong, and will be punished, if not by those same authorities, certainly by God.

Been thinking about Iran lately and the shenanigans they might pull.

I know this would never happen, but one way to mitigate the fallout over taking out the regime would be for Trump to make a deal with the oil companies. Something like a one or two or five year income tax holiday for any U.S. operations in return for their commensurately lowering the price of oil and refined products. Our domestic industry would go like gangbusters and we could make up for the difference out of the ME while the dust clears. Congress would never go for it, and the Dems would be (even more) apoplectic (which has it’s own attraction). As a side benefit, it would probably rattle some of our OPEC friends, which also wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.

Governance and policy are one giant system. An action on any part of it creates reactions and subsequent waves in other parts of the system. Lower the revenue from one part and that revenue must either be made up from another part or you must cut expenditures. Whose ox is going to get gored? Take a company I worked at as an example. They needed to cut the budget. All the top guys had country club memberships and special deals on cars and gas. What did they cut? R&D.

Then there is the example of my county. They bragged that they had improved the water system without raising taxes on a single average homeowner. Where did they get the money? They substantially raised taxes on rental homes. This caused rent prices to skyrocket. Now they are talking about raising more money to subsidize low end renters, which will make the problem even worse.

I think it’s pretty clear that Trump is almost biblical in how he responds... An eye for an eye, a drone for a drone...
etc.

The Mullahs and their proxies can hit back all they want, and Trump will respond disproportionately...on up to where there is a dead American or a hostage etc, then it’s all hell will break loose.

For our part, I hope that we will learn that removing the head of the snake in a dictatorship is always effective.
