Iran is believed to have deliberately avoided U.S. military casualties during retaliatory missile strikes on bases housing American troops in Iraq, following the U.S. killing of an Iranian general, according to U.S. and European government sources familiar with intelligence assessments.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Wednesday the Iranians were thought to have targeted the attacks to miss U.S. forces to prevent the crisis from escalating out of control while still signaling Iranian resolve in response to the U.S. killing of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in Iraq last week.

I think they said they killed 80 of our guys.
“So maybe what happened was, Iran targeted missiles to miss or knew what they would hit would be unoccupied, in order to strike back, save face, and not provoke a U.S. response at the same time. “
They don’t have the accuracy to miss on purpose, or to hit one building while leaving another.
It’s a fallacious boat full of wishful thinking.
Do not buy this media spin. Iran missles missed their targets because they are not that good, period!
If one launches a cluster of missiles at a target, even with 1/4 mile accuracy (being generous with that), one is going to hit some things.
The Saudi facility was several sq miles of tanks, pipes and equipment. All Iran had to do was point and shoot.
Not unlike rocket artillery.
Nope
The United States Military only continues its existence thanks to the mercy of the mighty Iranians!
My interpretation is that Iran did not want to look like a wimp. They value symbolism and their own form of virtue signaling.
But Iran also wants to avoid further strikes by Trump. It they killed Americans, Trump would likely retaliate in kind. But if the hit the empty space that always exists on an air base, then they could avoid looking like wimps while avoiding any justifiable (in their eyes) attach from the US.
Our media and Academia love virtue signaling.
Yep...and he also observed that the Mullahs wouldn't be sorry at all to see their too powerful general go away. And he didn't fade away like Truman did MacArthur, but went in up a puff of smoke.
So yesterday everyone was saying "did we suddenly trust the Deep State intelligence services?".
Maybe we didn't. Maybe a little Iranian bird told us where in Baghdad to look for a certain general?
I differ in that I believe they targeted for death and damage. The Iranian initial reports were that they killed 30 US soldiers and the crowds went wild. What they probably didn’t count on was the US early warning system giving our people and the embedded Iraqi a heads up so they could get into bomb shelters.
Yes they did know in advance. The assassination of Suleimani was in response to that knowledge. The U.S. knew there was a Part 2 to follow the embassy attack. Israel has moles close to the inner circles. I’m sure the attacks would have been much worse if we did not know about them ahead of time.
You recall correctly. We haven’t officially declared war on any country since we declared war on Romania.
Reuters. Oh, yeah. ;D
Reuters is owned by the Brits, BTW.
Yeah, they called it the Soleimani attack because it was on fire and scattered all over the desert.
Not deliberate misses.

Bomb them anyway. Do you ever think about what they would do to us if they had the military upper hand? It would be barbaric.
This is the actual speech, by the way, verbally translated into English by a pro. See what’s really going on with the Iranians.

Yes, but those tanks were hit in a pattern with all of the hits being in the same relative place in the tanks.

There is on way that was random volley fire.
They told Iraq who then told us and we got our people out of there. It was a deliberate face-saving “attack”.
Exactly right.
