The United States-led military coalition against Islamic State said on Monday that it was pulling out of Iraq and would be repositioning forces over the next few days and weeks, a letter seen by Reuters showed.
"Sir, in deference to the sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq, and as requested by the Iraqi Parliament and the Prime Minister, CJTF-OIR will be repositioning forces over the course of the coming days and weeks to prepare for onward movement," read a letter from United States Marine Corps Brigadier General William H. Seely III, the commanding general of Task Force Iraq.
The authenticity of the letter, which was addressed to the Iraqi defence ministry's Combined Joint Operations Baghdad, was confirmed to Reuters independently by an Iraqi military source.
"We respect your sovereign decision to order our departure," it said. (Reporting by Ahmed Aboulenein Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)

Iraq used to pull this kind of crap all the time when Dubya and Obama were in power, in order to get more aid out of the US. Trump is signaling to America’s allies that if they do so with him, we will actually leave.
I guess it’s time to pack up and let Iran and Iraq settle it. I have to believe that Iraq would rather partner with us than them.

Just curious why the letter is not signed, no cc’s, dated but not stamped...this may be happening but the letter looks funny.
Almost half the Iraqi parliament was prevented from voting. The other half was warned to vote this way. Even with that he voted a non-biding resolution.
the Iraqi parliament right now is no better than Venezula’s. IF we were already in Venezuela would we leave if Maduro’s handpicked parliament said to?

Yeah there’s other reasons to leave, but bad context. “Here Iran, Iraq is yours. You win.”
Unless, as some speculate, it’s Trump calling Iraq parliament’s bluff: “ya want us out, we’ll leave.” “No, wait, we didn’t mean it! Come back!”
Though, oddly, handing Iraq over to Iran might be an interesting way to defuse Iran, a la a dog catching a car tire: “you wanted it, you have it - now waste all your resources governing & subjugating it.”
