On January 17, 2016, a cargo plane with $400 million in foreign currencies was secretly sent to Iran in the dead of night.
US officials held the ransom cash until US hostages were released on the tarmac. It was a ransom payment.
Two days after Obama sent Iran the ransom cash the US government wired 13 individual payments for $99,999,999.99 , each with an independent MICR, totaling $1,299,999,999.87.
Already the cash from Obama’s ransom payment to Iran has been traced to terrorist groups in the region.
This past weekend Democrats attacked President Trump after the president called a strike on Iran’s number one terrorist Qassim Soleimani.
On Monday Kellyanne Conway responded to the Democrats naysayers who lectured President Trump after the strike on terror leader Soleimani.
Kellyanne Conway: I am not going to be lectured by people who voted affirmatively to fork over $130 billion in cash to Iran which helped to fund the Quds force. I don’t think it went to economic development or women’s freedom and liberation, do you?

I think there were actually a couple transfers.
1. iirc, one was for $1.4bb
2. the second with palletized case (american dollars, euros, francs was reported to be $140bb. I’ve seen it reported that the palletized cash was flown out on as many as 5 different transport planes that landed at 5 different locations.
The specific amount in question was $400 million on account in the US for future military purchases by the Shah’s government. An additional $1.3 billion was ‘interest’ since 1979. The amount was in dispute in an international claims court, which Obama ‘settled’.
Congress never claimed control over the money so didn’t need to vote.
I believe there was a lot more money in frozen accounts and disputes. That’s where much lager amounts are claimed.
You might want to ask a second question.....where thr money went in the weeks after delivery? Most Persians will say that upper levels of the government exchanged their local currency for dollars and euro, and moved it offshore. The Iran banking crisis continues.
Right. The higher number was in Iranian overseas accounts that were frozen by the U.S.. We released those holds, so the banks let Iran draw on that cash.

It was $150 billion in “released funds”. It may have been $1.7 billion on pallets. Either way people should swing from lamp posts for it.

Also, IIRC, it had something to do with how much 0vomit could transfer without causing some sort of accounting rule to take effect. In other words, he was trying to do this without calling attention to it or causing some sort of restriction on it. Kind of like depositing $9999 in your bank account to avoid IRS reporting. (Which, btw, may still get reported to the IRS, esp if there are many transfers just below the 10K threshold.)
