Rand Paul: U.S. Soldiers ‘Deserve Better’ than Undeclared War with Iran
Breitbart ^ | 3 Jan 2020 | JOSHUA CAPLAN

Posted on 01/03/2020 7:25:18 AM PST by RandFan

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) reacted Friday to the U.S.’s deadly airstrike on a top Iranian military commander, stating that it would be “feckless” for the country to wage war against the Islamic regime without Congressional authorization.

“President Trump viscerally understands that the toppling of Saddam Hussein made Iran stronger. Soleimani, like Hussein, was an evil man who ordered the killing of Americans. Yet, the question remains, whether his death will lead to more instability in the Middle East or less,” Paul wrote on Twitter. “The question today is whether the assassination of Soleimani will expand the war to endanger the lives of every American soldier or diplomat in the Middle East?”

“If we are to go to war w/ Iran the Constitution dictates that we declare war. A war without a Congressional declaration is a recipe for feckless intermittent eruptions of violence w/ no clear mission for our soldiers,” the senator added. “Our young men and women in the armed services deserve better.”

It has nothing to do with constitution.
Rand doesn’t agree with the middle east policy implemented by American government.

The action to take out the Iranian terrorist general is legal.

Agreed.

Now if we want to escalate the situation into a war with Iran, we need to follow the Constitution. That's the point Senator Paul is making here.

Mystifies me how many here aren't getting it. Oh well, I guess FR ain't sending their best these days.

From what I’ve read, when the party doesn’t go her way, she turns into a glass ashtray-throwing potty mouth. Kind of makes you wonder about the pre-party conversations the invitees must have; “Honey, don’t say anything to upset her and no matter how drunk she gets and how many people she blames for things......just agree with her!”

Can't say I blame him. It's been nothing other than a total disaster that has squandered valuable lives and trillions of dollars of treasure.

I do believe the strike was in Iraq where we have been at war for some time now. Loser blew it by getting in the way of US air strike.

Rand knows that the mighty & honorable constitution didn’t prevent America from going into the Iraqi wars.

We’re there to monitor Iran’s nuclear program.

I sometimes disagree with you, but, here, you are correct. Plus, bases in Afghanistan can be ramped up and put Iran in a bit of a pincer, if need be. Getting supplies in can be tough, though. (Good Lord, this (US) is the country that succeeded with the Berlin Airlift and dared the USSR(!) to take a shot...)

We do make a little bit of a show of nation building in Afghanistan, but, it is only that, really. Iran and nukes are what is behind all this, IMO, as I have posted on FR often.

“Now if we want to...”

Again, “if.”

Read the US DOD statement. There’s no “if” here.

What part of attacking a country’s embassy could they not see in itself an “act of war” that only a puss like obama would not respond to, but would probably send another pallet of cash in a “please don’t do that plea”?

Face it, khameni’s big mouth “you can’t do anything” bragging was pretty well answered with a “you ain’t seen nothing yet” response instead of the expected backward shuffling bowing of the obama era.

Read the US DOD statement.

This trumps the U.S. Constitution?

False assumption.

Senator Paul is talking about the eventual escalation.

There won't be any escalation other than the Iranians continuing to do what they have been doing for years........And when they do, NOW there will be retaliation as we have just witnessed....

Taking out this general is the equivalent of taking out Patton early in WW-II...Imagine how that would have affected our military.

This guy will be replaced, and likely already has, but his replacement won't have any of the knowledge and the respect this guy gained the past 20 years.

Come on man, you're not that dense. I know you better than that.

For the past 60 years or so the president has had the sole authority to recognize an attack on American soil, and respond to it.

This is not the same as declaring a war, a distinction I'm sure the incinerated residents of hundreds of cities across the Soviet union would appreciate.

Got that? An attack on American soil could legally result in the immolation of 200 million or so Russians, without Congress declaring a war.

The President that the authority and the responsibility to recognize a war, and to respond appropriately.

When the US soil of the embassy was attacked, he took out the person responsible for organizing that attack, and who was planning more attacks on American interests, AND was directly responsible for the deaths of over 600 US troops.

He could have just as legally taken out every mullah in Iran.

You tell me, would the world be a better place without the mullahs? Or will you be bemoaning their passing?

Rand, honey child, I know you have not been paying attention but they declared war on US about 40 years ago.

Quite frankly I would say it is time we slapped back.
