We no longer need to keep the Straits open. We are now energy independent of the ME. We WERE doing it on behalf of the EU essentially.
We no longer have to give a toss as to whether the straits stay open.
However, attack one of our embassies, and just over a half a day later you can expect us to shove an expensive firecracker up your keester.
I was addressing the statement by another poster that what the Iranians, Chicoms, and Russians are allegedly doing (keeping the Strait of Hormuz open) is the same thing we have been doing for decades.
I would disagree that we were ONLY doing it on behalf of the EU. (Again, I am talking about the past)
My contention is that context of what WE were doing is quite different from what the Chicoms, Russians, and Iranians are allegedly doing now, “patrolling to keep it open”. If they are, it is a simple stunt to show who is aligned with whom.
I would also say that in the past, we in the USA were doing it on behalf of ourselves as well as our European (and Asian allies) because we were not energy independent due to political considerations (not physical ones). We were not energy independent in a sense that at any point in time, a closure of the strait could negatively impact our economy regardless of any strategic reserves we had on hand, never mind the economies of countries we might be intertwined with.
Since those countries have largely shown no propensity to be real allies with us (except for Japan, IMO) I do agree it shouldn’t be OUR responsibility to keep the straits open.
It has been gratifying to see our country show it’s willingness to exploit our natural resources, Environazis be damned.
I give Trump credit for that as well, since no President all the way back to LBJ or Nixon has been pro-domestic energy exploitation. (I don’t count the stupid Ethanol endeavor by Bush) All of our recent Presidents (even including Reagan IIRC, though I do give him credit for deregulation and loosening the government grip on energy to a degree) have been cowed by domestic environmentalists whose lobbies effectively discouraged oil and coal exploration.

Live men in Saudi prisons can be induced to sing
——Enjoy Gitmo ragheads, youll be out...never.——
Gitmo?
Think El Batin or Al karg in Saudi Arabia. Arab guards are much more fearsome than Americans.
We need some alive so they can squeal how they colluded with RAT politicians because they also hate America and Trump.
How much was funneled back to hussein44 (to help buy that $15M beach front mansion that is safe from rising oceans) and other treasonous leftists?
Valerie Jerrett was Iranian born and a self-professed supporter of Iran and islam, and she is an anti-American radical. She was Obama's right-hand man the entire time he was running for Illinois Senator all the way through him being president. She was Obama's direct handler. She is still with him today.
“There is better crowdsourced news here than anywhere I know of.”
the trick is to separate out the 99.9999999999999% of BS on twitter, which is what makes it an reliable source, though of course even a stopped clock is correct twice a day ...
so far, no confirmation of those couple of tweets about the supposed capture of those two, just some echo chamber echos of the original tweets ...
still looks like likely BS to me ...
uh, that’s just an echo chamber echo of the original tweet if you bothered to follow the link labeled “reports” ... there’s now quite a few of those “report” echos being “reported” ...
BUT, so far, NO additional information beyond just the original couple of tweets ...
Sorry, I did my best.
I’m only a guy sitting at his computer as (probably) are you.
I’m certain the various stories will resolve over the next few days, and the truth or falsity of this one will be settled; possibly even to your satisfaction.
“Sorry, I did my best.”
actually, i apologize for being so snippy ... i thought twice about leaving out the “bothering to read the link” part when i posted to you rather than simply pointing out the existence of the link, and now i regret making the wrong choice ... hopefully, in the future, i’ll remember that it’s usually better to helpfully point out information that may have been missed rather than editorializing about it ...
No problem. You’re ok in my book. Stay cool.
Let them go, give them a car to drive away then you know bring in a Predator drone to say goodbye.
