North Korea and Iran have concluded that President Trump has been mortally wounded by impeachment.

They have made a serious error in judgement

In the past, Kim would rattle his saber and the US would throw a couple of billion his way and he’d shut up for about six months and then play the con game again. Hey! Piss ant! There’s a new sheriff in town and, do something stupid, and your country will become the biggest glass parking lot in the world.

It doesn’t sound like Fat Kim and Xi are really in charge.

Also on Dec. 20, China's foreign ministry revealed that senior Chinese officials had met with U.S. special representative to North Korea Stephen Biegun and informed him that China wants America and North Korea to "resume dialogue," with both parties making concessions.

And what concessions will China give?

North Korea exists only as a snarling dog at the end of a chain controlled by China. China could have Kim gone in 48 hours if it so wished.

Kim is in a bad spot because he remains dependent on support and guidance from China.

His foray into destabilizing the region is causing a move towards militarization of Japan and closer military cooperation between the US and Japan.

This is something China does not want and cannot afford in the region. I do not think this is coming from China as Japan is a major threat to them and their goals if they continue to increase military spending.

Given Trump’s firm posture, China’s uncertainty, and perhaps most importantly the instability of his regime in a nation with little GDP, I do not see any strategic benefit to his latest bluster and therefore these threats are likely aimed towards his own hardliners rather than any external strategic goal.

It is hard to see what he is trying to accomplish here, but then again I think North Korea is the hardest nation for us (the West) to understand.
