I’d forgotten about Helen Gahagn Douglas. Yes, it’s true that they hated Nixon long before he got to be president.
Personally, I think there were excesses in the HUAC hearings, but on the other hand, most of those people identified as Communists actually were Communists and were either actively working for the Soviets or were enabling Communism as “fellow travelers” (although I think “useful idiots” may have been a better term). Then as now, except that Russia finally saw the light - but Communists in the US are still Communists, no matter what they call themselves.
When I was in grammar school, even in the lowest grades, we did "CURRENT EVENTS" every week and for some reason or other I was quite intrigued by Mr. Nixon and spent the rest of my growing up time and yes adulthood ( I worked on both of his winning presidential campaigns and went to the Inguagural balls ), learning as much about him as I could. So I post factual things here, about him, to either remind others of the facts, or to educate those who don't know about these things.
I think the CPUSA is directed by the Chinese communist party now, though, and I think they have much more power now and a great hatred for Trump. I believe a lot of the anarchy in our country ( everything from Obama’s election, illegals invasion, transgenderism craziness, complete brainwashing in public schools, on and on) in the last 10-15 years has to to with Chinese communists behind the scenes, working through the CPUSA, dems and media to destabilize our country. It’s just too much to just be some lunatics here, too many strings being pulled. I think communist China is working to overthrow our government, they are playing a very long game.
