Russias natural population decline will set an 11-year record this year as the countrys demographic crisis shows no signs of letting up, the RBC news website reported Friday.
Russias overall population totaled 146.7 million in January-September 2019, the State Statistics Service Rosstat said in a report last week. While migrant inflows had offset its natural population decline in previous years, in 2018, Russias total population dropped for the first time in a decade as migration numbers hit record lows.

Good news for Europe and for the USA.
The Mexico of Europe.
Too much vodka

Note to short any vodka stocks I might have.
Humanoid robots.
. .it’s hard to imagine a more unhappy country than Russia. I will spare all the details and cut to the chase.
What young couple in their right mind would want to have a baby in a lawless country ruled by viscous, ruthless killer criminals and oligarchs. Putin comes to mind first and foremost.
For centuries Russia has been unhappy. It’s in their DNA as a people and no babies can’t be fixed... ..in my opinion.
About as many people as Bangladesh!
Drug/alcohol abuse does not make a healthy society
Lots of room in Russia. Open a big section for Muslim settlements.
The GD country would own the world economically if they ever got over their habits.
What is it? 13 times zones that country covers? More natural resources than anywhere in the world and all they do is screw it all up.
Yous opinion is mostly correct.
When a population has been abused as much as they have in history, they tend to not think the way a free people think.
What a screwed up bunch.
What do Russian men use for contraceptives?
Their personalities!!!
First, Russia is far from lawless anymore. The vast majority of people never experience contact with "vicious, ruthless killer criminals and oligarchs". In fact, most government officials won't even take small-time bribes anymore for fear of the consequences. Most people live their lives perfectly happy, and have more or less what they need. I've lived in Russia, I have first-hand experience.
The root of the demographic problem is twofold: 1) the country is still (a least a little bit) feeling the effects of having an enormous percentage of its young men killed defeating the Nazis. 2) the fertility rate dropped dramatically after the collapse of the USSR (mostly due to economic hardship and stress that was non-existent under the Soviets), dropping from 2.01 births-per-woman in 1989 to a low of 1.16 in 1999. Russian women were quite productive during the Soviet years, beating American women in this metric for a good part of the '70s and the entire '80s.
Now, the last metric I have, from 2016, puts births-per-woman at 1.75, which is almost at parity with the USA at 1.80, and for reference, way exceeds Japan at 1.44 (and no one is arguing that Japanese are to oppressed to reproduce...though they might have other societal issues).
So, the issue is not that Russians are too unhappy to reproduce, but rather, that the population is lopsided toward the older generation due to WW2 and the post-collapse era. This is why they expect the numbers to stabilize by 2023 and begin to grow normally again.
Agree...
Thanks for your analysis. There are a LOT OF PEOPLE here who, I guess, think that having Westerns fade away to be replaced by Third World types is somehow good for their kids. Other than that, maybe they’re still living in the Cold War, or the chaos there in the 1990s.
But then again, can you blame them, as that’s all they hear in the media (that they claim to mistrust).
We need more European(western) immigrants. I say look to Russia, Germany and South Africa. They’re in trouble.
. .I think there’s merit to what you say, but here is an opposing view, I think it’s from Wikipedia but there are countless similar articles on the net.
Corruption is one of the prime causes of Russia’s political, economic and, social problems, because of the rampant involvement of most government officials in corruption. Corruption is one of the prime causes of Russias political, economic and, social problems, because of the rampant involvement of most government officials in corruption.
Another article opined that Corruption in Russia is rated 28 on a corruption scale that has 100 being the least corrupt.
We have killed our own flesh a blood to the tune of 65,000,000+
I read recently that the population of Russia was decreasing at the rate of 750 a day.
