When my pager goes off at University Hospital in Newark, and I see a line that reads Pediatric gunshot wound, 20 minutes out, I immediately run down to the ER whether Im on call or not, because I cant help but wonder if its my kid. Thats the added twist of being a mother of three and a trauma surgeon in America. I worry, like other mothers, about my childrens safety, and its my job to expect patients rushed to our ER who may have minutes left to live.

If she wanted do something abut gun violence she would try to get black people to stop killing each other. There is nothing she can do to keep them from getting guns. Even if they managed to confiscate all the guns legally in private hands, they would just be pouring over the border along with illegal workers, drugs, muslims, and who knows what else. And of somehow they could not get guns, they would use knives to take care of business. Just ask the Brits about that.
The symptom is violence. The cause, which is what must be fixed, is something else entirely.
“Comments are biting”
They really are after the SJW Doc.
She wants federal funding to figure out who is doing all the gun violence and why?
So true.
I am reminded of that case down in Waco where we learn that those who ended up dead were killed by the police crossfire. None of the “alleged perps” were indicted after years of investigation...bizarre from the get-go.
I don’t think we have been told the whole story on this Jersey City incident, per usual. Could it be that everyone was killed by the cops “crossfire” one more time? Anyone seen any formal report from the coroner yet?

It is women like this who have made me reluctant to have unrelated females taking care of anything important in my personal life. Doctors, dentists, financial advisers, I will go with guys who experience and empathize with the white hetero male condition. The rest are too likely to be dismissive or even hostile.
My thoughts as well. You're a trauma surgeon, making good money I presume. You could live anywhere in America. Yet you deliberately raise your family in an environment where it's reasonable to wonder if that's your child who has gotten shot tonight?
If you don’t want to witness lives being destroyed then don’t vote for democrats. I’ll bet she hasn’t figured that out yet.
Pathetic.
There is a local eldercare lawyer who’s doing a lot of TV ads - her voice comes across as strident and nervous. I would never want advice from somebody like that; it just seems like she has a chip on her shoulder from the git-go.
She should move to a safer STATE!
Say, a state that is ALL Republican!
“She wants federal funding to figure out who is doing all the gun violence and why?”
She’s an assistant professor in an academic institution, and wrote an op ed. The charitable way to look at it is that she is a highly empathic physician who is heartbroken about what she sees, and wants to do something about it. The less charitable way to look at it is that she’s an ambitious junior academic who spent a huge amount of time training (at least five years after medical school to become a trauma surgeon), has ambitious plans to advance in academia (national recognition, papers, section chief, possible department chair), and needs the funding to pursue the research that will advance her career. From my experience in academics, the truth is probably somewhere in between.
A recent Johns Hopkins study claims more than 250,000 people in the U.S. die every year from medical errors. Other reports claim the numbers to be as high as 440,000.
Medical errors are the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
Most medical schools are now producing doctors of wokeness as a major and doctors of medicine as a minor. I get a newsletter from mine and its all about minority progress, community service and social justice.
I agree, her “concern” is BS.
I suspect she actually lives in a lilly white gated community, and her kids attend an exclusive private school, both of which are protected by armed guards.
Medical errors kill many times the people that gun violence does in the USA. She should concentrate on fixing that if she wants to save lives.

Female doctor in Northern NEw Jersey? I can GUARANTEE she is a Rat.
Shes an Assistant Professor. She wants a promotion. Shell get it, too.
I don’t know if I will be forgiven, but when I saw it was a female surgeon, I stopped reading.
Some women cannot be trusted to be impartial. And I am a woman.
Some women ruined the teaching profession, and other professions, and now they are in the process of ruining the health profession.
And again, this is just my opinion.
That site is notorious for shutting down the comments sections on stories when they get too brutally honest; it is the website for NJ’s main paper, the Newark Star-Ledger.
