Labor is being massacred in Labor strong holds, Cons are winning by significant majorities. It not even close in most these seats
Westminster - Labor and Liberals split the vote (13K votes each); Conservatives win with 17K votes !!!!
How does is it set up for the speaker in the Commons? Does the majority get the speaker or will the same one be in place?
This is the most stunning defeat for the Left(socialism) that i’ve seen!
Massive wipe out!
Islam also lost big too so i’m happy!
MEGA and MAGA!
Sinn Fein wins Belfast North seat - they refuse to swear allegiance to the queen and won’t fill the seat
The BBC seems to be indicating that Scottish independence is now a done deal.
Well, they need to be allowed to vote for it first, but other than that, yeah, a done deal.
Its not over until the Dems are reduced to an untamed, balkanized rabble.
Theyre well on their way.
I’ve heard it said that there’s basically no way that anyone can stop a second referendum.
Conservatives 358-368
Labor 192-202
The Speaker is, by tradition, independent - they leave their party when they become Speaker, and would normally continue in office after the election (they are also traditionally unopposed at election).
In this case the current Speaker is not running again, so he will need to be replaced, and he will be elected from the Commons, and the Conservatives will probably elect one of their own into the role.
I do believe a 2nd scottish independence referendum is assured... I expect this to dominate the conversation tomorrow...
thus, I also believe that Brexit will be furthered delayed, there’s no real incentive now for Boris to get Brexit quickly done.
the wipeout is getting less massive as the night wears on. +39 now.
The "leader of a party" becomes/stays the Prime Minister ( akin to what we have ...PRESIDENT ) and has nothing to do with being "Speaker" of the House.
They have 2 Houses ( as we do ); The House of Commons ( elected officials ) and the House of Lords ( sort of like our Senate; however you have to be an Aristo/titled nobility, to be a member of that House!
Yes, the PM has a cabinet, like what our president has.
The King or Queen is basically a figurehead and has very little to do with the government ( signs Bills, signs the paper that makes the PM the PM after he or she wins an election, does lots of charity work, opens stuff, etc. it's ceremonial ) and opens the Parliament each season.
Our system is much better and our FOUNDERS, IN THEIR INFINITE WISDOM, set up our government differently.
Hope this helps......
Except that he said he would and he ran on it (see the Love, Actually advert).
Sorry - I missed something. Bercow resigned as speaker on November 4th, so has already been replaced by Sir Lindsay Hoyle who was a Labour MP. He has been reelected (he was opposed by an Independent and a Green, but not by the major parties) and will continue as speaker
That’s a bit high, re Labour; the guesstimates on The Daily Mail and Beeb, are lower.
And in case you don't know, Scotland is mostly faaaaaaaaaaaaaar lefty/Commie now. They actually need being part of the Uk; the UK is far better off without them!
And as far as "leaving"...it isn't worth a tinker's damn, as far as the UK leaving the EU!
I agree - cut em loose ...
