Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday, tapping a federal prosecutor and a conservative appellate lawyer for the west coast court.
The nominees, Patrick Bumatay and Lawrence VanDyke, are likely to elicit strong opposition for Democrats. If confirmed, the pair would raise the number of Trump’s 9th Circuit appointees to nine, with one other nomination pending.
Trump has clashed frequently with the 9th Circuit, which upheld injunctions against top administration policy priorities like the travel ban. His criticisms drew a rare rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts, who rejected Trump’s charge that judges are sometimes motivated by politics.
Friday’s nomination is the latest twist in Bumatay’s meandering path to the federal bench. Trump nominated Bumatay to the 9th Circuit in October 2018 over the objections of California Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, but his nomination lapsed with the end of the previous Congress. Thereafter, Trump nominated Bumatay to a federal trial court in southern California. That nomination was pending before the Senate until Friday, when the president changed course and named Bumatay to the 9th Circuit.

The 9th circuit's makeup will then be 16 Democrat appointees to 13 Republican appointees.

According to Chief Justice Roberts there are only ‘judges’... The courts cannot be stacked one way or the other because ALL judges are apolitical. When these judges are appointed they will not become “Trump” judges... right? According to Roberts anyway.

This is so great. While dems play Romper Room Impeachment, the President and Turtle (who is a creeper, but understands coattailing), have been quietly packing the federal courts with judges who get what’s in the Constitution and why it applies to them.

I think one of the R judges assuming senior status will also be able to hear cases or advise in some way. Can’t remember the details. It’s even worse for the Ds than they imagined.
The biggest gift lazy Obama ever gave is leaving tons of slots open for judges. The biggest gift of Trump is filling them with good judges that will for a long time rule with an even hand. Every confirmed judge in the last 3 years has been better than any crooked Killary would have put in.

The importance of getting the 9th circus to the point of equilibrium between dems and Republicans is that the dirtbag Federal district judges that the Dems forum shop in California to kill Trump’s executive orders for the nation will know that there is now a strong likelihood that 2 of the 3 judges reviewing their political decisions from the 9th circuit appellate bench will be Republicans that will overturn it within weeks of their promulgating it. No more waiting months and years for the Supreme Court to overturn it. They will actually have to make the decision based on the law not their Dem leanings. Checkmate.
The only way to keep in fixed is to disempower the judiciary.
I don’t think Obama anticipated that McConnell would change the rules on voting and disregard blue slips. This oversight could be the only thing that saves the Republic.
Every time I see that 23-6 I realize how far we have come with President Trump at the helm.
