Geneva — Countries have procrastinated for too long and need to begin making steep cuts to their greenhouse gas emissions immediately, or risk missing agreed targets for limiting , a senior United Nations official said Tuesday. The appeal by Inger Andersen, who heads the U.N. Environment Program, came days before governments gather in Madrid for an annual climate change meeting.
Current national pledges would leave the world 5.8 Fahrenheit warmer by 2100 than pre-industrial times, with dramatic consequences for life on Earth, the U.N. agency said, adding that getting the world back on track to limit the increase to 2.7 degrees (1.5 Celsius) would require a fivefold increase in measures pledged so far.
Even if the current pledges are met, the U.N. said it "would cause mass extinctions" and leave "large parts of the planet uninhabitable" by 2100.
"We need to catch up on the years in which we procrastinated," said Andersen. "If we don't do this, the 1.5C goal will be out of reach before 2030."
"Major societal and economic transformations need to take place in the next decade to make up for the inaction of the past," the Tuesday emissions gap report said, adding that these measures would need to include ending the use of fossil fuels in the energy, building and transport sectors.

We don’t have a dishwasher in our cottage. We wash all by hand. My wife has the hot water running the entire time she is doing dishes. Drives me nuts, but that’s because I’m paying for the hot water. :)
She also takes a bath every single night. She’s been gone a couple of times for a week or more, and it impacts our power bill.

5.8 degrees Fahrenheit warmer would mean I could probably play golf an extra month or two where I live. I’d be all in on that.

What causes ice ages ?
The CO2 in the atmosphere has risen by almost one third since 1958 from 315 parts per million to 410 parts per million. And the rate of increase of the CO2 is accelerating.
Add to that major increases in methane in the atmosphere. Methane which is an even more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 is being released into the atmosphere at an ever-increasing rate as vast amounts of permafrost melts in the arctic releasing trapped methane.
The dire predictions may be overstated on the given timeline but the fact that these greenhouse gasses are increasing at a measurable accelerating rate with no end in sight gives one food for thought.

Warmer temps = more plant growth through increased ranges = more CO2.

Global Warming/Climate Change/Climate Emergency and now Climate Catastrophe. All that’s left is Climate Apocalypse, and then they will have to come out with a new meme in order to:
a) lower your standard of living
b) raise your taxes
