Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has once again sounded the alarm on the environment, reportedly telling an audience in San Diego that all heavy industrial activity must be moved to space to save Earth.
Bezos appeared at the San Diego Air & Space Museum on Saturday to be inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame for his work on Blue Origin, the space flight company he founded in 2000. The Times of San Diego reported that Bezos addressed a crowd of about 600 invitees at the private event.
I believe that, one day, Earth will be zoned residential and light industry. Well move all heavy industry into space. Thats the only way, really, to save this planet, the worlds richest man reportedly told the crowd.
Bezos said that moving beyond Earth is the only way to sustain a civilization that consumes more and more resources.
You want a dynamic civilization that continues to use more and more energy and more and more resources and build amazing things, he reportedly said. And to do that, you have to move out into the solar system.
Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post, previously invoked the idea of a post-Earth civilization in May at an event for Blue Origin in Washington, DC.
If we move out into the solar system, for all practical purposes, we have unlimited resources, he said in May.

He sure can afford some good drugs.
The biggest problem with his proposal is heat dissipation. Theres no air in space so heat just bubbles around the source. Theyd need some substantial heat sinks to get the heat away from the boilers or whatever theyre using.
This idea is about as attainable as AOC’s green new deal.
I wonder if this will be implemented within the 11 years or so we have left on this planet?
Better yet, how many demented whackos out there actually truly and honestly believe in this bullshit? Seriously, I bet Bezos is not that dumb or demented to believe is own line of BS.
Hey lets start with Bozo! See how long it takes him till re-entry.
Tat’s going to be a hell of a commute to work every morning.
Ever wonder what’s in the plume created by rockets going into outer space?
For liquid-fueled rockets themselves, it’s “black carbon,” which is thought to be the second largest contributor to global warming.
For the solid-fueled thrusters, it’s alumina. While useful in many applications, it is problematic when deposited into the atmosphere by space-bound missiles.
Both are thought to deplete the ozone layer.
Currently, we’re not much concerned about the impact of launches because of their small number per year. But, now comes Jeff Bozo in a clown car called the Washington Post, with a fantastic idea of moving industry to outer space.
Where will he manufacture the rockets and fuel to lift the heavy industries into space? Where will the exhaust from all the rockets go? Has he done the math, or is he just shooting from the hip?
You have reduced the equation beautifully.
Parcel freight is not the same thing as bulk freight. Learn the different Bezo the Bozo.
That’d be one heck of a commute to space from Earth for an 8 hour shift.
Genius
But he got his participation trophy!
He’d better move the heavy equipment to space in an even way. Otherwise, The Earf could tip over.
I wonder who will get the contract to move it all up there.
I wonder if she bought those breastices on Amazon?
And how much energy would it take to 'move into the solar system'?
I think the concept he embraces involves mining resources in space and beaming down power collected from the sun. Lofty goals, but the number of roadblocks to seeing that are immense. You’d need one world government, centralized planning and organization at every level of industry to manage resources, rock solid control and predictability of all government and military systems and mass migration to take advantage of the space based resources.
Rockets and robots are the easy part.
“Ive never spent a penny on amazon. I dont want to support him in any way. Somehow I get by just fine.”
Everything found on Amazon can be found somewhere else, on line or at a bricks and mortar place, and at good prices.
People are really just lazy to begin with and will spend the least amount of effort to do anything. Buying the marketing hype of Amazon they quit “shopping” and just go to Amazon, which is exactly the philosophy Amazon wants people to have. It’s like the Zombies walking around glued to their cell phones, Internet browsing, Twittering, or texting every minute there is no call to be made or received. That’s a perfect person to the tech industry.
He can ship all the serfs and other undesirables off planet too and leave the planets to those who are worthy in the progressive ideal. /s
