Defense Secretary Mark Esper fired Navy Secretary Richard Spencer Sunday over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL who posed for a photo next to an Islamic State terrorist's corpse in Iraq, a Pentagon spokesman said Sunday.
Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper has asked for the resignation of Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer after losing trust and confidence in him regarding his lack of candor over conversations with the White House involving the handling of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher," Department of Defense spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement Sunday.
Controversy continued to swirl around whether or not the Navy would strip Gallagher of his Trident pin, ousting him from the prestigious SEALs after he was demoted from chief petty officer to a 1st class petty officer following his conviction in July. President Trump this month restored Gallaghers rank and ordered that the Navy halt its internal review of Gallagher's actions from 2017 that resulted in a high-profile war crimes case, for which he was found not guilty of the murder of an Islamic State fighter in Iraq.

[Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley have raised serious concerns with the White House after President Donald Trump signaled he would block the Navy from ejecting Eddie Gallagher from the SEALs, an administration official told CNN.]
“In June 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Spencer to serve as the 76th United States Secretary of the Navy.[6][7][8][9] Spencer was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 1, 2017.[10] He was then sworn in on August 3, 2017.[11]”

I think that was referring to SEAL Command Admiral Colin Green...
good, now get the women out of the subs.
I was just going to post this, thanks for doing it.
Sounds like Esper fired Spencer to save his own butt, after Spencer toed Esper’s line in public, but arranged in private with the White House to have Gallagher’s review rigged so he’d not be subject to disciplinary measures:
Thanks for searching before posting too.
So the ole “he goes or I go” didn’t work so well, eh? This SecNav is a moron.
Thank you for succinctly stating the gist of this.
So is it all over or is “the rest of it” going to happen.
Not sure who the bad guy is in this scenario if your synopsis is correct.
It's on my shelf, and overdue a re-read.
R.I.P., brave warrior.
The thing about Vindman, he’ll actually be surprised when he gets whacked. That dude does not come off real bright.
Here’s hoping Adm Green gets transferred to someplace appropriate like Adak, Alaska.
Rear Admiral Collin Green soon to follow I expect.
HELL YEAH...ANCHORS AWAY!
I liked Hackworth. He got a little weird at the end there but he had a terminal disease, that’s going to mess with you. He was right a lot more than he wasn’t.
Haha!! Yeah, his vacation time was approved. Stay on it, buddy!! All the time you want!!
The swamp creatures are lining up be the next SecNav.
