Defense Secretary Mark Esper fired Navy Secretary Richard Spencer Sunday over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL who posed for a photo next to an Islamic State terrorist's corpse in Iraq, a Pentagon spokesman said Sunday.
Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper has asked for the resignation of Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer after losing trust and confidence in him regarding his lack of candor over conversations with the White House involving the handling of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher," Department of Defense spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement Sunday.
Controversy continued to swirl around whether or not the Navy would strip Gallagher of his Trident pin, ousting him from the prestigious SEALs after he was demoted from chief petty officer to a 1st class petty officer following his conviction in July. President Trump this month restored Gallaghers rank and ordered that the Navy halt its internal review of Gallagher's actions from 2017 that resulted in a high-profile war crimes case, for which he was found not guilty of the murder of an Islamic State fighter in Iraq.

Maybe that was the ‘lack of candor’ part.

What rest of it? I believe the guy was leaving the military anyway.
If that was always the case why did the Sec. Navy go behind the Defense secretary’s back to propose that very deal to the WH. Makes no sense.
Interesting. Has some diplomatic experience in Pock-e-stan... some health care experience...engineering and aviation experience... Iraq experience... jack of all trades.
9. I wondered if Spencer was a significant member of
The Obama/Mabus “Queens Navy”?
He was retiring to avoid further harassment but even so they wanted to strip him of his honor and reputation - until Trump intervened,
Maybe now former congressman Randy Forbes can be Navy Secretary.
The Secretary committed insubordination in a couple ways - one was by not telling the Seal commander, in no uncertain terms, to stand down as his CinC had spoken...hope the Seal guy goes down too.
“... Now punish Vindman according to the UCMJ ...”
I couldn’t agree with you more.
SecNav is being fired for going around the chain of command and skipping SecDef. POTUS isn’t firing the poser; SecDef is.
What about Green?
Right now, there is not enough information to know, but I think he got the message.
Yep, he’s already there getting briefed on what to say by Schiff’s staffers, he’ll be ready to testify soon!
Trump’s letting war criminals go unpunished! Gallagher was mean to Muslims! Trump bad! Impeach him!
