NOONAN: Trump’s Defenders Have No Defense
WSJ ^ | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 11/22/2019 6:56:21 AM PST by conservative98

Look, the case has been made. Almost everything in the impeachment hearings this week fleshed out and backed up the charge that President Trump muscled Ukraine for political gain. The pending question is what precisely the House and its Democratic majority will decide to include in the articles of impeachment, what statutes or standards they will assert the president violated.

What was said consistently undermined Mr. Trump’s case, but more deadly was what has never been said. In the two months since Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry was under way and the two weeks since the Intelligence Committee’s public hearings began, no one, even in the White House, has said anything like, “He wouldn’t do that!” or “That would be so unlike him.” His best friends know he would do it and it’s exactly like him.

We need you to go to Washington and replace the President’s defense team immediately, because you are exactly correct.

They are not willing to allow Donald Trump to exercise the powers of his office, and by a perversion of language, they claim that Donald Trump BEING PRESIDENT is a crime.

THAT’S the right defense. Over and over and over.

Trump’s own party doesn’t support him. His entire “defense” is designed to keep that fact under wraps in the run up to 2020 because if it became known that the GOP hates POTUS every bit as much as the Dems do GOP voter morale would collapse and the Dems would win a landslide.

"She’s still alive?"

Not in her noodle.   She's obviously dead in the head.

Let’s get real. Read the transcript. Trump did ask that the Ukraine government look for the Crowdstrike server (which virtually everyone agrees is a chimera) and to investigate Burisma and its ties with Hunter Biden.

Did the Ukrainian government do anything about these requests? As far as we can tell, a resounding no!

Was the armament aid released anyway? Yes.

Should Trump have asked for the finding of the Crowdstrike server? No, it makes him look foolish, poorly-informed, credulous - take your pick. It doesn’t reflect well upon him.

Should he have asked for an investigation of Hunter Biden? I have a real problem with a president asking another country to investigate a US citizen. That really shouldn’t be done except perhaps under the most extreme circumstances.

I have said repeatedly that I considered Joe Biden, when he was a senator, to be the most unethical member of that body (which is quite an accomplishment!). There’s no doubt in my mind that the naming of Hunter Biden to the board of directors of Burisma was an attempt to garner favor with the US government. But that’s a matter for the Ukrainian government to investigate, not for the President of the United States to encourage.

This sordid affair does not reflect well upon Mr Trump.

Peggy Noonan was assimiliated into the GOP Inc. ranks decades ago and she now finds herself minimized and marginalized by an administration that doesn’t look to her for anything.

She wants the comfortable surroundings of a Bush administration.

She will never get it.

The hag windbag ought to get a grip, she is full of horse manure. Trump did nothing to be impeached for. He did not break any laws and did not violate the constitution. Her hatred of Trump has baked her brain.

“She wants the comfortable surroundings of a Bush administration.”

I recall she wanted a job in the Bush administration as a speechwriter and didn’t get it. She has turned against Republicans since.

Peggy Noonan wrote some great speeches for President Reagan and a few for the first President Bush. However, since around 1990 she has been paid by the media establishment and has parroted their views.

She viciously attacked Sara Palin and was a strong supporter of Obama.

She supported Romney and on election night she predicted he would easily win.

Now, at almost 70 years old, she is a avid Trump hater and just one more aging media stooge.

She puts this in the first couple of paragraphs? This quote is baloney. You know who says, “He wouldn’t do that”? Parents of bad kids who do something wrong at school. Aside from that, if anyone said, “he wouldn’t do that”, it has zero effect on evidence at hand.

Confession: Other than wanting to read the other great shots on this Obama boot-licker Nooner, I scrolled down for jokes like that.

Gracias
