China demands Trump veto bills on Hong Kong Human Rights

China on Thursday demanded President Donald Trump veto legislation aimed at supporting human rights in Hong Kong and renewed a threat to take “strong countermeasures” if the bills become law.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act undermined both China’s interests and those of the U.S. in the semi-autonomous Chinese city.

“We urge the U.S. to grasp the situation, stop its wrongdoing before it's too late, prevent this act from becoming law (and) immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs,” Geng said at a daily news briefing.

“If the U.S. continues to make the wrong moves, China will be taking strong countermeasures for sure,” Geng said.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi joined in the criticism, telling visiting former U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen that the legislation constituted an act of interference in China’s internal affairs and ignored violent acts committed by protesters.

“This bill sends the wrong signal to those violent criminals and its substance seeks to throw Hong Kong into chaos or even to destroy Hong Kong outright,” Wang said.

The human rights act mandates sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials who carry out human rights abuses and requires an annual review of the favorable trade status that Washington grants Hong Kong.

Another bill prohibits export to Hong Kong police of certain nonlethal munitions, including tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, water cannons, stun guns and tasers.

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the bills Wednesday, a day after the Senate passed them on voice votes. The bills now go to the White House for Trump’s signature, and the White House signaled that he would sign the measure.

Hong Kong held on to its advantageous trading status with the U.S. upon its handover from British to Chinese rule

Trump just needs to give the Chicoms a civics lesson. If the bill is reconciled and passed by veto-proof majorities, then Trump has no control over their passage. He is off the hook as far as trade negotiations are concerned. It is wonderful how bi-partisan the tough new China stance is.

"It’s moments like this that you realize China has no idea about how things are “supposed” to work here. They have a cynical, brutal understanding of politics by fraud, corruption coercion, etc. But no real idea how our system actually should work when it is operating as designed. Trump is operating foreign policy as designed, and the Chinese have no clue. Keep telling Trump what to do! That’s worked so well for everybody else who has tried it."

They sound much like Democrats and Marxists in the US. The Resist movement is sending the message to China to hang on, they will remove or cripple Trump and then the looting of America can continue.

China demands Trump veto bills on Hong Kong Human Rights>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What will China do, outlaw the Chinese community in America from serving the American public Chicken Almond Gai Ding in their community restaurants?

China has a presumption of sovereignty over all nations, and think they can bring the hurt on any nation that stands against totalitarian Chinese communism.

Maybe Christians In Action can make themselves of better use than clandestinely supporting the impeachment of the president, and organize a Hong Kong resistance, supplying them with the tools and funding to bring about a free and independent Hong Kong. Better to draw the line there rather than in the Spratly Islands or off the coast of Japan or South Korea. That line must be defined at some point. Maybe this is it.

Yes, it is a RATS trap! This time it is not just their typical ‘rah rah rah’ about nothing, it is their plan to trap and destroy Trump. They cannot allow him to keep on winning - successful trade deals with China is definitely NOT what they want.

What can pres Trump do? No matter what he does will be a high crime to these RATS! The Republicans are awfully dumb to go along with them just to appear ‘freedom- loving’!
Any good idea? What can we do to convince pres Trump not to fall for this trap?

1. China and Trump sign a good trade deal.

2. Trump vetoes the “legislation.”

3. The House and Senate over-rides the veto.

Trump 2, Nanzi/Upchuck 0.

“telling visiting former U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen that the legislation constituted an act of interference in China...”

The most troubling line in the entire article

Good catch.

Cohen was Clinton’s man in Beijing. Or beijing’s man in DC.

And these guys are still going back and forth between DC and Beijing.

This is the deep state.

China has a difficult time with dissent. They are so accustomed to exercising absolute power and authority domestically that outside parties not towing the CPC line must be dumbfounding to them. If they continue the strategy they are currently using, they are going to hit an international ceiling. There is nothing uniquely Chinese that is exportable or desirable to the outside world.

Strong counter measures? Maybe we should start putting nukes in Tiawan, Japan, Philippines and South Korea.

Your post’s message including bullying of local neighbors in the South China Sea. Interesting scenario occurs to me....one of China’s smaller frigates pesters a Phillipines or Vietnamese naval vessel and that vessel responds by managing to sink the Chinese one....what would China do to actually try to punish the nation involved...?While China has grown stronger, it still can’t project much power sea wise yet. it could try a land invasion of Vietnam but the Phillipines…..? Hmmm!

you ask how China would respond if a Chinese ship was sunk by the Philippines.

are you aware that China has already deliberately collided with a fishing boat attempting to fish in their traditional area that China had decided was theirs. The fishing boat sank, and the ship that collided with them left the fishermen to die so there wouldn't be any witnesses. (luckily they were rescued by another boat the next day).

This boat was sunk, but similar near collisions and Chinese boats overfishing in our Economic zone are a threat to the fishing industry.

And in todays’ news: even though foreign ownership is illegal, it was discovered the China owns 40 percent of our electric grid and could shut it down.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50498720

China via bribes can destroy our economy. The Chinese community run the economy, making it difficult for ordinary Filipinos to succeed in business, which is why so many have migrated to work overseas.

They could stop importing food: one time we were punished when China refused to accept bananas that had been ordered, and that harmed the economy of Mindanao.

Or they could increase smuggling in food to under price our farmers, as they have been doing with onions and cheap rice.

China also runs the drug business here and was using the airports as a major way to smuggle drugs all over the world.

as for “While China has grown stronger, it still can’t project much power sea wise yet.”

Apparently you are not aware that China is building air craft carriers and has expanded their navy in recent years.

but of course, you are a Chinese troll and know these things.
