f you thought there werent any major elections until the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 3, guess again. On Saturday, Louisiana will choose between incumbent Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards and Republican businessman Eddie Rispone for governor. And the race down in the Bayou looks increasingly close, so its an open question whether Edwards can once again overcome Louisianas deep red hue to win reelection. Heres where things stand heading into Election Day.

858 of 3934 precincts reporting - 22%
absentee reporting - 59 of 64 parishes Votes
290,734 John Bel Edwards (DEM) 49%
305,063 “Eddie” Rispone (REP) 51%
Total: 595,797
Rispone down to 51 percent is bad news: he is winning only in small and moderate-sized parishes. Baton Rouge , New Orleans, and Shreveport will push Edwards to an easy victory. Once again, I suspect the culprit is Republican voters staying home.
Thanks, Jenny.

Unfortunately, the cities are the last to get their votes in and they totally over-rule the rural areas. So, let’s just pray.

At this point after going over the returns with a third counted, I see no way for Edwards to be unseated. Rispone is not even leading in Monroe, where the President campaigned for him.

N.O., B.R., and Shreveport will push Edwards to probably 55 percent of the total statewide vote. Too many Republicans were again “no-shows.”
