McConnell On Dismissal Of Trump Impeachment Articles: ‘We’ll Have To Have A Trial’
Daily Caller ^ | November13,2019 | Henry Rodgers

Posted on 11/13/2019 2:00:01 PM PST by Hojczyk

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that the Senate cannot dismiss the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, meaning there will be a trial.

“I don’t think there’s any question that we have to take up the matter. The rules of impeachment are very clear, we’ll have to have a trial. My own view is that we should give people the opportunity to put the case on,” McConnell told reporters after being asked about dismissing the articles of impeachment.

Most Republican senators refused to rule out voting to remove Trump from office in an impeachment trial over the Ukraine scandal when contacted by the Daily Caller at the end of October.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/11/10/how-senate-can-stop-purely-partisan-impeachment/

“How the Senate can stop a purely partisan impeachment

With 51 votes and the ‘Reid Rule,’” Johnston continued, “McConnell could first block the filibuster on any motion to proceed and then move to dismiss any article of impeachment with a simple majority.”

Which means there would be no trial — the political equivalent of a mistrial to throw into the mix already including the two-plus years of the Mueller hunt and the ongoing inquiry of U.S. Attorney John Durham into “Russiagate” as the country approaches the 2020 election.

This process — the refusal by the Senate to approve a “Motion to Proceed” — is how the Senate should flush articles of impeachment from the record as it stands today. Invite the House to begin again if it wants to, but using due process if it does, and backed by a bipartisan majority.

So Mitch will have a trail...bet they impeach trump

So if I underhand this correctly, 31 conservative senators can call in sick on voting day and no vote?

Senate quorum rules would apply, so as long as there were 51 Senators present, they could vote. If 31 conservative Senators didn't show up, there would be a quorum of 69 Senators, with 47 Democrats (including 2 independents,) and 22 Republicans, with a 2/3 majority requiring 46 votes.

So bad idea.

He is absolutely correct, but only if there were articles of impeachment, which there are not.

After todays horrible showing, I doubt that there will be any.

Cocaine Mitch

I've been told that name is used to show great affection for McConnell.

Is that how you used it?

Absolutely NOT!

Allegedly, Mitch had a coke habit back in the day.

How in the hell could “Cocaine Mitch” ever be taken as a positive compliment?

I suggest you be more careful of who you listen to...

They can play their Rino games....

President Trump does not.

He is fighting for the people.
He is fighting for this country.
He is fighting for his presidency.

If Republicans throw Trump overboard. He could run as an independent and destroy any chance of a Republican victory.

Getting rid of Trump is not in their best interest. So, they won’t do it!

I doubt that the House will actually impeach him. It would be political suicide for Democrats.

I think that “We ALMOST impeached him” would be the best outcome they can hope for at this point.

No. If Trump is convicted in the Senate, they would vote to ban him from holding future offices of trust in the United States.

GOPE does not want Trump...and impeachment & conviction before 2020 election is end goal.

Then...back to normal uniparty rule and all of the bribes and payoffs.

It’s not rocket science.

You know the turtle picked those judges, right? Just like he has picked Trumps cabinet by letting Trump know who would be approved and who wouldn't.

For such an innocuous opinion, an inordinate amount of research was required of me. I attempted to document who suggested judges to POTUS for his nomination. Would you believe that I could not find a thing? This this was a fascinating observation.

Surely POTUS does not know enough judges. I assumed he appointed a committee, or listened to his friends and associates. But I don't know and can't determine who does. And I am also not sure that The Turtle is the sole person recommending judges, but at most one of many. So what facts do you use to shape your opinion. I'm not sharp-shooting, I'm genuinely interested.

Well then...

A shame trial in the house...

deserves a sham trial in the senate.

Tit for tat.

At this point everyone here must all consider the obvious likelihood these people are plants from the devious Democrats. Many of us have suspected it all along, but at this point it should strongly be considered, if not finally believed, by everyone.

If the Senate decides to convict Trump, my question is when does the armed insurrection begin to take our government back?

This is nothing more than a third-world banana republic coup to take out a duly elected president.

When does the shooting start?

True, but then the howling would be all about McConnell KNOWS Trump would be found guilty and that is why he won’t allow a trial.

It cuts both ways but I still do not believe there is any real possibility.

That’s some serious spinning - to twist a cocaine user into a positive compliment.

Good grief....use a modicum of common sense.
