Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that the Senate cannot dismiss the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, meaning there will be a trial.
“I don’t think there’s any question that we have to take up the matter. The rules of impeachment are very clear, we’ll have to have a trial. My own view is that we should give people the opportunity to put the case on,” McConnell told reporters after being asked about dismissing the articles of impeachment.
Most Republican senators refused to rule out voting to remove Trump from office in an impeachment trial over the Ukraine scandal when contacted by the Daily Caller at the end of October.

Which means there would be no trial — the political equivalent of a mistrial to throw into the mix already including the two-plus years of the Mueller hunt and the ongoing inquiry of U.S. Attorney John Durham into “Russiagate” as the country approaches the 2020 election.
This process — the refusal by the Senate to approve a “Motion to Proceed” — is how the Senate should flush articles of impeachment from the record as it stands today. Invite the House to begin again if it wants to, but using due process if it does, and backed by a bipartisan majority.

Yeah, I’d like to see them try. I don’t think it would work out well for them. At this point, he could just run 3rd party and have a good chance of winning.

Well, impeachment isn’t a criminal affair, they would have to find some actual crime they could charge him with and have a trial in a real court. Good luck with that.

I’m not convinced that the House has the votes, yet. This circus is so weak in substance, I doubt a lot of Democrats will want their name on it. Only the extreme nutcases like Schiff.
If the waffling Dems/Commies are told that it’s all rigged and Senate, with help from Cocaine Mitch, will convict, then the votes will be there.

Speaking as one of the “unglued”, I wish I could share your optimism. I think it’s 90% they will impeach and we will have to endure the crap circus well into the new year. I am not among those who think they will remove Trump but they might. A lot of the Rinos think we will get over it and accept Pence.

I am by no means a McConnell hater, even though I recognize his limitations.
Sunshine is a great disinfectant, and subjecting the RATs’ ludicrous accusations to the glare of cross-examination will be time-consuming but ultimately effective.
My bet is that the powers that be are fully aware of this. Several think tanks have run the numbers, I would bet money!
Think about it. All the repub senators that have been seated for multiple terms, are quite rich now. Their links to the deep state are so deep, that come mass rebellion, their families are safe, etc.
If the republican congress votes to remove Trump, it will literally make this country a single party system, in one night.
I would also bet that simulations have pretty much noted what most figure -— there will be no violence from conservatives or right leaning people.
Additionally, I would guess that the Powers That Be are pretty sure they have enough technology to quell any rebellion through simple financial and law enforcement attacks. Our local PDs are armed to the teeth, tanks, guns, etc.
