That may be what they must turn to. Soon they will have 30 million more single males than single women of similar age. Staggering.
China’s total population is actually declining. But their elderly population is increasing quickly...and the number of elderly in poverty is growing even faster.
They will be forced to make some tough, and likely cruel, decisions in the coming years.
The National Interest is a pro-China publication. The truth is Chinese aircraft carriers suck like most of their military equipment. What they claim about the effectiveness of their platforms and weapon systems have never matched their true capabilities. Chinese stealth technology doesn’t work nearly as well as the US’s does; stealth, directed energy weapons and target data fusion are the technologies that are going to rule the next big war the world sees, and the US is way ahead in those technologies.
They’ll last as long as they stay way to hell out of harms way. If they dont, they will go down to the bottom.
This isnt WW2 times where they could hide and it took hours for the enemy to find them and sink them.
Twenty or more aircraft with air to ship missiles and its over.
As far as the Red Chinese? They could give a rip about their pilots lives so they’ll send as many as they think will do the trick.
I remember the political cartoons from the '70s...the Soviet Space program was referenced as a potbelly stove.
I wouldn’t put it past the Chicoms to start a euthanization program for the elderly. And wars are often used to take the spotlight off a failed economy.
“...forty meters in width by forty-eight meters in length...”
Sounds like a floating card table.
National Interest is infested by hysterics and self flagellators. they also republish months old (sometimes even years old) crap as though it was new.
Can some navy type tell us how many support ships will China need to go with support 6 aircraft carriers?
I understand it is something like having all the buildings on an air force base follow the runway float around the world.
And the have six new runways.
Back in 1904 Russia got into a little squabble with Japan. The smart money was on Russia, a great Western power. The smart money was wrong. The inferior Asian country won decisively.
Does a similar situation exist today? Nope. But in 20 years, who knows?
But China does not have the years, decades of flight deck experience.
Does anyone remember a bunch of years ago someone wrote a book about WW 3 with Asian countries. It was free for Freepers.
As I remember what I read, it is sounding like much of it is comming true.
You left off the sarcasm tag.
One or two containerized nukes by any hostile country off our coast and youve got the One Second After scenario. That type simple and easy EMP attack scares the bejeebers out of me.
Do you know how many aircraft carriers the US launched 1942-1944?
I'm sure we could do it again - if China would sell us the steel.
I'm sure they would, right? They depend on the US trade for survival of the regime, right?
RIGHT?
Taiwan is a goner when Beijing decides to pull the trigger.
Discussions of alternative scenarios are silly.
In this day and age I wonder what good an aircraft carrier is in a war between the big guys.
Satellites can spot them quick. And today’s weapons can take them out real quick.
Well, there is probably a ex navy pilot out there in the same commie mold as LtC Vindictiveman that would be glad to help them.
I’’m all for sending Jughead John Kerry to train their boat captains. They will learn how to turn scrapes and nicks into hero awards.
Hmmm... maybe some of them would emulate him and turn traitor against their homeland.
That is a fun novel, but it isnt going to happen. It would take a lot more than one or two NUKES set off over the continent to effectively stop the country.
And if someone Id shooting off nukes above our country, how long are they going to last?
It simply makes little sense or any country to try that.
That’s because I wasn’t being sarcastic.
You think aircraft carriers are state-of-the-art military/naval strategic weaponry?
