Our dominant parties have failed, miserably, in leadership for a long time. I’m glad the Republicans didn’t nominate any of those other candidates in their 2016 debates. But candidate Trump didn’t come close to meeting my minimum standard for support, and his actions as President sure haven’t changed that. For example, his administration banned bump stocks. Does anyone here on FreeRepublic think that ban is consistent with the oath to support and defend the Constitution? I don’t begrudge folks having different minimum standards for supporting candidates than I have. In 2008, I helped raise up a candidate who did meet my standard - Dr. Alan Keyes. Volunteers did what it took to make it so that votes for Dr Keyes would count in enough states to win the Electoral College. We did the same thing in 2012 to raise up Tom Hoefling for President. We tried again in 2016, and maybe we’ll try again in 2020.

Steve, I understand people being upset about bump stocks. To be honest, I’d never heard of them before the Las Vegas mass shooting. Somehow I think we’ll be able to defend the nation without them. Does that mean Trump was right? I don’t think so.

As for Trump not meeting a minimum standard in 2016, who are you kidding? The guy put his platform out there and it was the best one I’d seen in my lifetime.

“But candidate Trump didn’t come close to meeting my minimum standard for support, and his actions as President sure haven’t changed that.”

Well, you just lost me right there.

We’re not going to agree. Take care.
