Said they deserve 'uncomfortable' lives
A UC Berkeley graduate student and instructor took to Twitter on Wednesday to vent about his repulsion for rural Americans and why they deserve to live "uncomfortable" lives.
Jackson Kernion, a graduate student who has taught at least 11 philosophy courses at the university, posted that he "unironically embrace[s] the bashing of rural Americans."
"They, as a group, are bad people who have made bad life decisions," he said in the since-deleted tweet. "Some, I assume, are good people. But this nostalgia for some imagined pastoral way of life is stupid and we should shame people who aren't pro-city."
According to Campus Reform, the Twitter thread started with Kernion advocating against affordable health care solutions for rural Americans, saying that "Rural Healthcare Should be expensive! And that expense should be borne by those who choose rural America!"
"Same goes for rural broadband. And gas taxes," he argued. "It should be uncomfortable to live in rural America. It should be uncomfortable to not move."
Evidently Kernion believes that rural living Americans are purposely rejecting the more "efficient" city-dwelling life, and thus should bear the consequences of more expense.
Though Kernion may have been intending to make economic arguments for his beliefs, his tweets had quickly devolved into ad hominem attacks on rural Americans.
After facing some backlash, Kernion did seem to apologize for his tone, which he says came across as "way crasser and meaner" than he believes himself to be.
He must hike around on the sidewalks in the city of Berkeley because otherwise he may get ickies on him from all those bad-life-decision rural people from hiking in non-urban areas.
What is sad, is that this guy is what passes for a college professor nowadays.
A professional idiot.
When I was in college in the late 60s, we used to say professors were people who couldn't succeed in real life outside of the university environment. So true.
That being said, my wife and I fled the big city when we retired and now live on a rural 30-acre farm raising beef cattle and enjoying the solitude of country life.
Best "bad life decision" we ever made.
Whole paychecks.
Yup thats me. All bad life decisions! (sarcasm)
The email addy would not work for me.
The supermarket that takes food stamps.
So much wisdom and insight from a grad student.
This left wing crazy, apparently, does not have a Phd. He is described as a graduate student. Does he even have a legit Master’s degree?

Any good American who sends their children to cesspools like UC Berkeley deserves a couple of hundred thousand $’s in student loans for sending their child there to get an IUD/Instant Unemployment Degree.
They say that every black cloud has a silver lining. The silver lining in his case will be when the Communists[or which name they give their selves] take over, they will put him in a field in the sun with a hoe in his hand. If he balks, they will put a bullet in the back of his head.
Rural Americans forged the greatest, richest, most powerful, most just nation in history from an untamed wilderness, conquered polio and smallpox, made human flight possible, put men on the moon, abolished slavery (at least in the civilized world), made the American Dream available to all the people of the world, saved the world from the horrors of naziism and the Japanese empire, and...well that's a brief summary...and they will save America from the clutches of those who would destroy her when they re-elect President Trump in 2020.
What has he done?
Yep! He only has a AB degree and not even a Masters degree. Why in hell is a AB degree idiot lecturing at a major university?
(A.B., cum laude, Philosophy, Harvard, 2012) Jackson is primarily interested in philosophy of mind, epistemology, and philosophy of science. Hes currently writing a dissertation on the concept of conscious experience, arguing for a certain kind of a priori functional constraint on experience. When not philosophizing, he likes to go hiking and keep up a coding hobby.
What has he been doing with his AB degree the past 17 years?
F this nimrod.
I am not saying you think this way; I guarantee that despite his objection to rural broad-band subsidization said "professor" is all for subsidizes. Just for things he approves of, though; city things. That's what is good about being an elite liberal. You get to think what you think, and only the rural rubes and right wing haters will question it, and they don't matter because they are "bad" and deserve to be punished.
Not a professor, an “instructor” and technically even lower in the academic pyramid then an “instructor” a graduate student!
LOL!
Not a professor. He is merely a grad student with an uncompleted thesis who is being paid to teach (likely) basic freshman classes.
Interesting that his hobby is hiking which coincidentally would likely be done in rural areas.
He is a moron. Not sure why he is getting all the press.
Interesting that both of his profile pics have rural backgrounds....
This POS has little recognition of the people who paved the way before him, to live the life in comfort and safety. A total loser.
The moron shouldn’t be allowed to eat, drink or wear anything that came from outside the city. That also applies to some area’s electricity.
