U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) announced a new bill on Wednesday, the Family Friendly Schools Act, to make school days longer by a total of three hours.
The presidential candidate wants to start the school day by at least 8 a.m. and end it at 6 p.m. in order to, among other things, align with working parents schedules more sufficiently.

That's her deal.
“Return to neighborhood schools.”
Better yet -home school your kids if you can and help starve the beast.
School days in Japan are long. Six days too. Special tutors on nights and weekend’s. High school graduates in Japan blow away every time....USA college graduate kids. .....just saying.
I lived and owned a design firm in Tokyo. 10 years. Plus 5 years in Morioka. I think I qualify as a very knowledgeable lad regarding this subject matter.
At this rate, you might as well have sleeping quarters at schools too. Isn’t that how it goes when the child becomes property of the state? Any remaining crumbs of family time are even further decimated. This sounds like the dream of either someone who never had children and doesn’t know what a family is for, or someone who never really wanted the children they may now have.
Oh, yay. Subject kids to more bullying, away from their families in a hostile environment. There is nothing like government sanctioned child abuse to turn those kids into maladjusted leftists.
I’m sorry, which state are you comparing Japan to?
Just another attempt, or continuing attempt, to transfer all of parent’s duties to the State. Why not just confiscate all newborns to the custody of the State? That would be a lot easier, legs up ho’.
What she doesnt understand is that there are 50 states and theres something called federalism and also the constitution
Are Dem speeches getting longer or do they only seem longer? Time dilation or something?
the ineligible scam artist candidate should learn that in America the federal government is NOT supposed to run our local schools
(and yes, I think the D of Ed can be put out of its misery to the benefit of us all, too)
Institutionalizing as many as possible for as long as possible... imagone the extra free tax dollars for the program.
Institutionalizing folks introduces epigenetic changes. Let’s do it.
She is so toast!
“Remember the nationwide 55mph speed limit? “
Actually that did improve our lives back then!
and
When gas went up to 4 bucks a gallon under obozo I went back to 55 mph even though the speed limit had gone up to 70 mph. I not only saved 20% on gas but I saved A LOT on brakes.
That I won’t complain about but denying children food in school when the First Sasquatch eats like like well a Sasquatch well that is just WRONG!
“School days in Japan are long. Six days too. Special tutors on nights and weekends. High school graduates in Japan blow away every time....USA college graduate kids. .....just saying.”
That is in Japan where their kids are taught things other than how to put a condom on a banana.
If they just taught them the three R’s here in America like they did in the old days our kids would be sharp as tacks. They don’t anymore and the kids are out of control at most inner city schools.
Good point!
Misguided Sen. Harris evidently doesnt understand that, instead of becoming a lawmaker in the constitutionally limited power federal government, the states having never given the feds the express constitutional power to stick its big nose into INTRAstate schooling, she should have tried to get herself elected as state governor or lawmaker.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
As a leader in the state government, she could experiment with her schooling ideas under 10th Amendment-protected state powers, depending on what parents of California school children actually want.
Justice Brandeis had put it this way.
"It is one of the happy incidents of the federal system that a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose [emphasis added], serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country. Justice Brandeis, Laboratories of democracy.
(Note that constitutional limits on states as laboratories of democracy is that states cannot establish privileged / protected classes or abridge constitutionally enumerated rights, and must maintain a constitutionally guaranteed republican form of government.)
Remember in November 2020!
MAGA! Now KAG! (Keep America Great!)
This would be horrible for kids - accommodating their school day to parents’ work day is ridiculous.
Maybe people shouldn’t have kids, unless one parent can be truly dedicated to the child, and home when the kid gets home. (Such an old-fashioned idea...)
We want the kids more thoroughly indoctrinated by the Government. We want to control there minds for a longer period of time.
A while back a FRiend posted a final exam from high schools in the USA circa 1900’s....
Wish I could find it. It was really tough. Stuff about the constitution, foreign relations, mathematical reasoning. ...plus a essay.
Yeah, condoms on bananas, freaks in library story time, psycho kids walking the halls looking to hurt other kid. ...
Then throw in the Wookie lunch program, textbooks rewritten to obfuscate history. ....kids today don’t have much of a chance.
Yes, the demands of high school are much higher in Japan, but then apparently too many students, once free of high school and Mom and Dad pushing them, end up partying their college years away. Apparently most Japanese companies don’t pay attention to college grades, so long as the university has a good reputation. It’s burn out. Kids need to play and if they can’t do it while they are kids, they will do it later.
Decades ago Russia tried starting their kids in school a year earlier than usual, with the idea of getting them in the workforce sooner to beat the USA during the Cold War. The result was that kids stalled about mid-elementary school levels for a year or so. They gained nothing in terms of quality of kids and had only extra expenses. It appears Japanese kids are stalling during college. Human nature is something we often can’t manipulate like daylight savings time.
FedGov has no say in this matter.
Kamalalala is not just ineligible, she’s stupid.
