I carry a spring loaded piston window plunger that will shatter any side window. It’s encorporated with a seat belt slicer. $15 on Amazon. One is on my belt, one is velcroed to the dash.
Oh, I also have a halon and an ABC fire extinguisher on board. Oh, and a CERT medical kit.
Or, you could turn up Eric Clapton and drive on at 75 mph. Your choice.
I suppose that would work with a conscious occupant.
The dirty truth about being an engineer is that the managers call shots like this. Cf. Boeing Max 8. No engineer wants to build crap. In a small design problem it can be bad engineering but in a huge systemic problem, or one which goes on a long time, it comes down to management. Hiring incompetent engineers ( e,g. age discrimination, H1Bs etc) who don’t push back is also is a management decision with predictable consequences.
Same for blaming the manufacturing line or labor.
Management can demand quality or demand you let go and push out crap.
Making management look good and reinforcing their promises/stories/lies is job 1.
I am utterly baffled that cops don’t carry a tactical pen with a window-breaker tip in their breast pocket. You never know when you’re going to come across a frantic woman with her kid accidentally locked in the car on a hot day begging somebody/anybody to just break it, been in that situation before. With one of those, a 7 year old could break out a side window. Instead YouTube is full of videos of cops beating a car’s side window with a baton and being unable to break it. Not smart.
Most of them are too lazy to buy a $7 tactical pen off Amazon that has a window-breaker tip. With one of those, a 6 year old girl could break out a side window.
I don’t know what that is but I’m assuming it’s like a FMECA in the aerospace industry (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis).

The firefighter states that they spent 5 to 6 hours extinguishing the fire after the initial crash. The car was taken to a tow yard, and it caught fire again, and the fire department had to be called for the second time.

Yes, I believe it is. Not only were all the lithium ion battery packs being charged in the kitchen, so too were all the life vests stored there, and that plastic stuff burns intensely.

You should see some of the fanboi posts in comments sections of articles about Teslas. I had some guy from Salt Lake screaming at me (yeah, I stop by and poke them), telling me that Teslas are selling like hotcakes in conservative Utah, and telling me about all of these awesome sales numbers. Gotta be kidding me, I live in Utah and I’ve seen one ever, and I consciously look for them. I drive past a public library every day on my morning and afternoon commute that has 20 of these charging stations. I never see anybody using them. NOBODY. Same with the charging stations in Dinosaur National Park and a few other places in Utah. I go ahead and park in the stalls, they’re right up front and nobody parks there. I have yet to get hassled, the people that work there know the whole thing is a joke.

Locked doors on any car would prevent someone from opening them, that has nothing to do with whether they’re retractable or not.
That’s why fire and rescue routinely break windows to remove incapacitated individuals from vehicles.

Me too. I have two knives that have a window-breaker point and seat belt cutter, one on me and one in the jockey box (it’s a smart tactic to velcro one to the dash, I think I’m going to try that). They work, I’ve used them before. I do not understand why cops don’t carry these, it’s the height of ignorance (or they’re such cheap-asses that they won’t carry one until the department issues them one; you can buy one off Amazon for $8, $20-$30 if you’re being sophisticated). I can’t tell you how many YouTube videos I’ve seen of cops beating the hell out of a side window with their baton and failing to break it. A 6 year old girl could break out a car’s side window with a tactical pen or knife that has a window-breaker tip.
