Sometimes the obvious just slips by you. This is one of those times. Crowdstrike reportedly didn’t determine that ‘Russia’ hacked Hillary’s emails until June 2016. So how could Australia’s Alexander Downer know that ‘Russia’ hacked her emails in May 2016?
The dates just don’t add up. In May 2016 George Papadopoulos was contacted by Australian Alexander Downer and told you that Russia had Hillary’s emails.
But Crowdstrike didn’t investigate Hillary’s emails until June 2016 when they somehow claimed that the Russians had hacked into the DNC.

2 separate questions: The emails on Hillary’s bathroom server, and the alleged “hack” of the DNC server. 2 Separate Computers, 2 different sets of documents.
GP is on the right track to question the timeline, but off the top of my head I don’t know whether Misfud and Downer were talking to Papadopoulos about the DNC ‘hack’ or Clinton’s bathroom server. AFAIK, nobody has publicly acknowleged accessing Hillary’s server (aside from the copies appearing on Carlos Danger’s private laptop). But Crowdstrike investigated the DNC server not Hillary’s server. And the claim is that Papadopoulos was talking about Hillary emails, not DNC documents.
(to be clear, PapaD was apparently fed this story of Hillary’s emails from Misfud and/or Halperin where it was later transmitted to Downer. I don’t recall if he also is alleged to have spoken of the DNC hack.
You have the facts right. As is often the case, GP is one of the worst purveyors of “fake news” today.

I hope he keeps it that way too. That name must be held for, shall we say, a Trump card.
Beacuse those in on the prospective coup (the insurance policy) - whether they were part of the American contingent or a foreign contingent - knew the outline of the agenda before the acts of the agenda were taken. They all knew that blaming the Russians for the DNC “hack” job would be part of the agenda. They did not need the phony results announced by Crowdstrike to know that.
Yes that’s about it. It was a set-up, an intelligence operation from the get go.
A bunch of never Trumpers publish an op-ed criticizing Trump’s lack of foreign policy expertise. Trump then puts together a list of ‘advisers’ - really just a list of names most of whom never did any serious work for the Trump campaign. Some on this list worked on other campaigns or belonged to various international think tank type groups. Among them on the list was George Papadopoulos, who had some experience as an energy consultant and then volunteered for the campaign of Ben Carson. Papadopoulos was living in London working for some or another international relations group. He turns in his resignation and tells them he is going to work for Trump.
Instead of giving him 2 weeks severance and wishing him luck, they send him on a trip to Rome to meet Joseph Misfud. Now who sends someone who just quit on a trip to Rome?
In Rome Misfud tells Papadopoulos that “the Russians” have Hillary’s secret emails. They meet several more times in several other exotic locales.
Out of the blue Papadopoulos gets invited to cocktails with Alexander Downer. Downer was the former head of the Australian Intelligence - their version of the CIA. He was then the Aussie diplomat to the UK. Why would Downer have any interest in this Papadopoulos character? They meet and have drinks.
This next part is in dispute. PapaD claims he said nothing of the sort. But Downer claims that PapaD told him that Trump had Hillary’s emails from the Russians - or something along these lines. Downer then notifies the FBI.
IMO, the entire thing was a set up. They sent one set of operatives to seed PapaD with some crazy idea, then they sent another set of operatives to solicit these crazy ideas from him in order that they could report him and justify their ‘investigation’.
Then they get warrants on Carter Page, who was an FBI informant that helped prosecute Russian spied, but they told the court that Page was a Russian asset. Mueller likewise reported that Misfud was a Russian asset when the evidence, scant as it may be, suggests that he was a western intel asset.
The same M.O. basically applies to this entire impeachment nonsense. They had a mole inside the WH, he was told Trump said something about Biden, he did his own unauthorized investigation, went to Adam Schiff’s staff who advised him to file a report with the IG, the IG retroactively changed the rules to allow for hearsay evidence while Schiff’s staff flies off to Ukraine to interview other witnesses. A total set up.
Exactly correct. They wanted to spy on Trump, but needed a paper trail to justify their illegal activity to make it appear legal. So they concocted this set-up scheme for Misfud to feed Papadopoulos some bogus information, and then sent Downer to try to solicit that bogus information from Papadopoulos and report it back to the FBI. Voila, instant paper trail justification for a ‘counter-intel investigation’ which, btw, has much lesser requirements than criminal investigations - no warrants needed etc. Just a rubber stamp approval every 30 days... approval by the people who concocted the entire scheme in the first place!
I am shocked, amazed and dismayed by the left’s acquiescence to all this. This is abuse of power at the highest levels by the most powerful agencies - agencies that ordinarily the left would distrust... who hide evidence, make deals with the Bulger crew, spied and tried to blackmail Dr. Martin Luther King, who engineered the Bay of Pigs and the Vietnam war. Suddenly however they are the heroes of the left? Gobsmacked!
I have gradually come to the realization that Leftists ultimately believe in nothing but gaining and holding power for themselves and their party. They have no enduring principles other than that.

They were spying, and needed a court warrant to provide them immunity from prosecution for their illegal activities. FISC opinions note tens of thousands of illegal inquiries/snoops. This illegal activity has not abated even today.
