Nice phrase (which by the way doesn't appear in the referenced quote), but what exactly are you "forgiving" Cummings for? What did he to do you that you are in a position to "forgive"? Oh, and note that he didn't acknowledge anything he did that requires "forgiveness" and he didn't ask for your forgiveness (although, hopefully, he had time before he died to confess and ask God's forgiveness for the harm he caused to others in his position of power and authority for so many years).
You may think my comments harsh, but my purpose is to point out the widespread misunderstanding of what "forgiveness" is ... what it requires ... and who is involved. No offense intended.
