I live on the mostly Black south side of Atlanta. I have walked all over the allegedly crime ridden south side. I have neve had an angry look.
The only gunfire we hear is News Years Eve. The only death was a drunk falling over the railing in the old Braves baseball park.
I hear the same stories of the allegedly crime ridden west side of Atlanta. I have not walked it like I have the South side. Who knows?
When I was in Chicago, my first year back from Vietnam, there were 7 separate murders on my 1 block. My corner was the intersection of gang turfs.
All 7 murders were committed by the mostly white gang that had a couple Puerto Ricans in it also. The Italian gang, the 2 Hispanic gangs at my corner didn’t do anything worse than name call.
It is strange how personal experience and personal perceptions influence us. It is strange how some will believe TV cop shows and 3rd hand street gang rumors the same way they believe the MSM news and 3rd hand political rumors.
In the pastsseveral years I have talked to many people about white guilt and I can definitively say that none of them feels white guilt.
I think of that too at times.
I will say though, when you can see video of them roaming the streets, trying doors, breaking cars, and stealing mail at 3:30am, it’s a little hard to dismiss it as racial bias.
