Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards quest for a second term as the Deep Souths only Democratic governor will stretch over another month, as voters denied him an outright primary win Saturday and sent him to a runoff election.
The incumbents inability to top 50% of the vote in the six-candidate field raised questions about his reelection chances against a national Republican offensive that includes President Donald Trump. Trump made a last-minute appeal to Louisianas voters to reject Edwards.
Edwards will compete in the Nov. 16 runoff against Eddie Rispone, a Baton Rouge businessman and longtime GOP political donor making his first bid for public office. Rispone largely self-financed his campaign, capturing second place after outspending fellow Republican contender U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham 5-to-1. [ ]
Trump took credit for keeping Edwards from an outright victory, saying in a tweet that Edwards has done a poor job. NOW HE IS IN A RUNOFF WITH A GREAT REPUBLICAN, @EddieRispone. Thank you Louisiana! He claimed Edwards support fell after I explained what a bad job the Governor was doing.

The biggest difference between the primary and the upcoming
runoff is that a lot of the local parish races were decided
and thus only the gov race will be on the ballot. That said
most likely turnout will be lower.
A large building under construction collapsed in New Orleans on Election Day and Bel Edwards was the governor.
That is going to destroy any hopes Bel Edwards had.
But he was soliciting Prostitutes!! Don’t nominate anyone involved in a sex scandal!!!
Until he lost that election, Vitter was pampered by the Republican Party.
As long as Rispone hammers away at the Governor and consolidates the support of Abraham’s voters. Edwards really needed to get that 50%+1 last night. It’s hard for him now to, although not impossible, but hard. Even if Edwards manages to win, he’ll be an instant lame duck facing Republican supermajorities in the legislature.
Allegedly. But in Louisiana, that’s not seen as a negative. Laissez les Bontemps roulet. It wasn’t an old sex scandal that defeated Vitter, it was corrupt insider Derp State RINOs who did not want an outsider Conservative as Governor. THAT was his sin.
You could make the argument against nominating President Trump based on such alleged scandals, too. When the Demonrats decided to put up sex predators for high office and didn’t bat an eyelash, that bar was removed.
The once magic, magnificent, man of color, Ex-POTUS, Barack Hussein Obama is no more a magic man of color. Obama went public across all of Louisiana pushing his boy, John Bel Edwards for Governor re-election, with thousands of “ROBO” telephone calls to Democrats across the entire state of Louisiana to get out and vote. Obama & Edwards failed miserably, getting only 46% of the primary vote, forcing Edwards into a runoff election in November, where the Republican candidate for Governor will slaughter Edwards...politically. Edwards lost his chance to hit 50% of the vote by about a 100,000 vote margin!!! Game over for both Obama & Edwards....Game won, hands down by POTUS, Donald J. Trump....period!!!
The great state of Louisiana is now 100% Republican from top to bottom....thanks....Trumpie!!!

My rule is don't nominate anyone with a credible sex scandal or pedophile allegation etc...
Let us hope Republicans in LA make sure they vote and get their friends and family members to the Voting booth.
and who is ‘Riposte’... LOL
Wrong.
Vitter was a two term, popular Senator.
Look at turncoat Jay Dardeene who joined Edwards team... for a 30,000 per year raise.
Typical split was 30-33% democrat in the other State wide races.
With a Republican supermajority elected in both the House and Senate.
Pedo scandal, yes, but sex scandals ? Like I said, with that high a bar, Trump couldn’t have made it through, and we’d have the Empress-Dictator Butcheress of Benghazi now.
Add to that, even if a candidate is squeaky-clean, they can merely float a false allegation and destroy someone with it. Look at Justice Cavanaugh. We could run the Son of God for office, and the Demonrats would allege He was “touching women and children.” These are evil people, and should be treated as such.
