PS&E was forced to spend $2.8 billion extra buying “renewable” power when less expensive power was available from the grid.

And, as usual, it was ordinary rate payers who were forced to pay this $2.8 billion to solar and wind ‘providers’ and PS&E was forced to participate in perpetuating the fraud by redistributing the money.

$2.8 BILLION. And that’s just in California. That scam is going on all across the country.

There is a moral component to this, and I refuse to be a part of this rip off.

Ummmm ... yeah.

That’s how “grid-tie inverters” work ...

GTE back-of-the-seat “Airfones”.

You never flew back then did ya?

Those too. And I did see a lot of seat backs with the phone handset wire crudely cut before they got around to removing the cradle.

PGE is required by law to pay the going rate for the electricity fed into the grid.

That amount is deducted from the homeowner’s electric bill.

If a homeowner isn’t using energy during those five days and energy is being fed into the grid, the balance sheet will look that much sweeter at the end of the billing cycle.

Something should be noted here.

Instead of having to build massive new power plants, the electric company, the state, and the federal government are creating a large power grid that incorporates these homeowner’s solar collectors.

That is a good thing.

If the homeowner has a battery system installed too, so much the better.

I have a family member that can run their home for a week or so without power grid assistance, if they are careful.

Folks, these systems aren’t a scam. They work and reduce the strain on the grid. Even if you don’t have one of these systems they do help you. They help reduce the demand on the grid making it less likely of a brown/black out. It also helps keep your rates lower, as the companies don’t have to pay a full load cost of a new power plant to provide power to your home.

Californians who screech about climate change were furious after discovering that the expensive solar panels they installed on their rooftops don’t work during a blackout unless they buy an equally expensive battery system.

And batteries worth crap costs a few thousand... and have to be replaced after a few years... All they were doing with their solar installs was 'selling back' electricity...

re: “Those too. And I did see a lot of seat backs with the phone handset wire crudely cut before they got around to removing the cradle.”

The *ONLY* accounts of calls I saw in the day were involving airplane toll-charged air-to-ground calls and not, repeat not cellphone calls.

Again, ‘stimulus generalization’ and people’s poor ability to pay attention to key details AND retain facts over time allows these ‘stories’ and purported accounts of cellphone calls to evolve and proliferate ...

In the case of the GTE Airfone calls, the calls are/were made through an OPERATOR, normally requiring a credit card ... in the specific case of Barbara Olsen (sp?) she talked the operator into letting her make a collect call to her husband Ted Olsen. Ted talked about this in one interview after 9/11.

PS. Former AT&T Wireless Services* RF engineer here.

* Among other things.

The really funny irony here is the disconnect between promises and reality with all these solar installations.

The original off the grid solar panel array would give you power during a blackout. The majority of California solar panel installations are with the new scheme to take advantage of renewable energy mandates and rebates. These systems deliver solar power to the grid, and the house draws power from the grid. When the power gird is down, you have no power though you have solar panels on your roof.

SunRun said they have hundreds of thousands of customers but “hundreds” paid thousands for the extra batteries and wiring to actually have power from the sun when the grid is down.

And the goal of most of these customers was moral points, bragging rights and the promise of money - not self-sufficiency.

To get the green bragging rights. To feel good about themselves. The promise of making money for renting their roof out to solar companies.

12 24 volt Solar Panels $150 each on Craigslist
8 6v 225 amphour batteries from Costco, $100 each
24 volt grid tie 240v 40 Amp inverter/charger $2500
1 MPPT Charge controller $100 ebay
about $300 in misc wire,boxes,connecters

This is how I solar powered my well and can run a full size fridge and lights plus more forever, Have Fun!!

because it is a grid tie inverter, when needed I plug it in to my Generator and it charges batteries and passes through the rest to what you need to run

Its interesting is putting Solar Power on your home is really designed to help the Global Community.
Not the individual.

It lowers what you pull from the power company. It saves energy in that way. And if your panels generate more electricity than you are using, the electricity goes back to the grid and your meter runs backwards giving you credit.

But if you actually want to go “off the grid” you would need batteries to store the electricity. Otherwise you will still be reliant on the grid.

Not true. Mine kept my refer going during the day. Charged cell phones and had my internet as well. Not a lot but the refer is important. Don’t need a battery unless u want nighttime power.

You can get a solar power phone charger so you can use your cellphone / tablet.
Use a hotspot from your phone to the tablet.

They do not work at night for some reason....
Maybe holding them near a candle.
