Don Lemon asked Beto ORourke if he supports revoking the tax-exempt status for religious institutions such as churches, colleges, and charities if they dont support gay marriage. His answer is yes. The in-studio audience applauded in approval.
There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break, for anyone or any institution, any organization in America that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us, ORourke said. And so, as president, were going to make that a priority, and we are going to stop those who are infringing upon the human rights of our fellow Americans.
Got that? Robert Francis ORourke will punish churches for preaching religious doctrine by yanking tax exemptions. An ORourke administration would micro-manage your church from their perches in Washington, D.C. The next thing you know, Beto will be coming for a copy of your pastors sermon. Oh, wait. That has happened, not with Beto but during the administration of former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, the citys first lesbian mayor. She tried to subpoena the sermons of local pastors who were opposed to the citys HERO ordinance in 2014. It was an equal rights ordinance that included the hot button issue of transgender people in public bathrooms.
If they tuned in, many Independent voters and moderate Democrats were thinking these candidates have lost their minds.
As Chief Justice John Marshall explained in McCulloch v. Maryland (1819), the power to tax is the power to destroy, and if religious tax exemption is revoked, thousands of churches in the United States could be forced to disband.

No, mosques will be exempt. This will only apply to Jewish and Christian organizations.
Wonder how the Democrats would like the penalty for child molestation to be death with absolutely no exceptions.
Beto isn’t the only one. Given an excuse, your own Government would love to do the same.
This jackass and AOC are competing for a FUBAR award.
The stupidest man on this planet.
now we’re talking. No tax exempt period. Leftist foundations are a pox on humanity.
I recall during the debate over homosexual marriage, we were assured by the liberal side that religious organizations , churches, any entity associated with religion, would not he compelled to allow homosexual marriage. We were told that they wanted homosexual marriage in our civil laws, not in religious doctrine.
"But the practical result of this principle is one on which there is no need of speculating; it works in one unvarying way. When error is admitted into the Church, it will be found that the stages of its progress are always three. It begins by asking toleration. Its friends say to the majority: You need not be afraid of us; we are few and weak; only let us alone; we shall not disturb the faith of others. The Church has her standards of doctrine; of course we shall never interfere with them; we only ask for ourselves to be spared interference with our private opinions.
Indulged in this for a time, error goes on to assert equal rights. Truth and error are two balancing forces. The Church shall do nothing which looks like deciding between them; that would be partiality. It is bigotry to assert any superior right for the truth. We are to agree to differ and any favoring of the truth, because it is truth, is partisanship. What the friends of truth and error hold in common is fundamental. Anything on which they differ is ipso facto non-essential. Anybody who makes account of such a thing is a disturber of the peace of the church. Truth and error are two co-ordinate powers, and the great secret of church-statesmanship is to preserve the balance between them.
From this point error soon goes on to its natural end, which is to assert supremacy. Truth started with tolerating; it comes to be merely tolerated and that only for a time. Error claims a preference for its judgments on all disputed points. It puts men into position, not as at first in spite of their departure from the Churchs faith, but in consequence of it. Their recommendation is that they repudiate that faith, and position is given them to teach others to repudiate it, and make them skillful in combating it." (pp. 195-196)

Somebody should ask him to confront Muslims with the same question.
But, hasn’t Beto read that part of the constitution that says something about, ‘separation of church and state’? A religion can have all kinds of beliefs, including not being inclusive of a person’s sexual preferences or gender identity.
Ok how about the progressive half of Government that thinks it’s in power would like any old excuse to remove religious tax exemption.
they scream and riot if they think anyone would touch abortion.. and yet so glibly take from the good folks to coerce and get their way on their lifestyle that they know is questionable for the church..
force is their way .. tax the church and give abortion stations more. money.
He speaks like one who is handing out the mark.
Dont take the mark.
That is the best idea I have heard today.
Wow. It took 50 years, but Beto is channeling his inner Meathead.

Churches are already free to engage in all the political activity they want. Even before Trump/Congress passed a law guaranteeing churches the right to political activity on their property, the IRS admitted they had no authority to prosecute churches for it. However, that doesn’t seem to have been effective in getting priests to speak up at all. (Yes, corruption, plus Americans United for Separation of Church and State continues to foment confusion.)
Beto? Beto? Do you mean Robert Francis the cultural appropriator?
I love, LOVE inclusions like this because it is so very CONVINCING ... right?
What’s worse than a fascist? An idiot fascist.
This moron really does believe that the majority of Americans agree with him on these subjects, otherwise he wouldn’t be throwing this crap out there to attempt to gather their support.
Good for America that these lefty jerks think they must appeal to their extremists. Get this ideology out in the open for all to witness.
I’m thinking the pendulum swing back in the other direction may be very painful for the left.
