We really do NOT know what is going on there. And let’s not forget that elements of ISIS were likely supported by us vs Assad. And the Kurds are Muslim commies who, IIRC, have not been too nice to Christians over there. It is a terrible mess.
Not holding your view against you. You may have more info than I do.
You are correct; The Kurds aren’t traditionally kind to Christians. They proved that during the Armenian Genocide.
These days, they are oppressing Assyrian Christians in Iraq. And, as you stated, many are communists.
They aren’t the worst group in that hellhole, but they are no angels.
Kurds are a diverse group. The largest political parties in Kurdish parts of Turkey and Syria are Socialist, not full blown commies. They oppose Islamic identity and want to replace it with Kurdish nationalism.
Modern day Kurds are nice enough to Christian’s there as long as they accept a Kurdish identity. This is bad for Assyrians who have a separate identity, but if you are a kurd in Syria you can freely convert to Christianity or Zoroastrianism or whatever.
Kids were the ones doing the killing during the Armenian genocide a hundred years ago but have since acknowledged and apologised.
