We have already helped them, too.
We owe them nothing and they owe us nothing.
George Washington said it first!
Yeah, except as part of their surrender we agreed to defend them plus that was why they’re only allowed a relatively small self defense force in their US-approved Constitution. It is a matter of both law and honor; and when we asked them to help support us in the Middle East, they sent us what they had and could legally send. They even amended their Constitution to allow their SDF to do more to help us. Japan is not like any of the other countries you’ve listed.
Plus, strategically, they’re our unsinkable aircraft carrier sitting off the East Asian coast.
If he didn’t then Trump isn’t as smart as I think he is. I’m not worried in the least. Trump is not stupid. I don’t think for a minute that he went into this decision without taking the prisoners into account. Trump is the most competent President in my life time. I wouldn’t bet on his stupidity.
Yes, but one of the calculations needs to be whether he survives and is not removed by the Deep State coup plotters. The timing of this decision will make it more likely that the Senate will remove him from office and then patriotic Americans will be faced with the ultimate decision of what to do about that.
Erdogan has shown little fear of Trump or any other U.S. president, witness the purchase of Russian arms and equipment. Trump's response to that was to bemoan the cancelling of the F-35 sales to Turkey.
Besides, right now the Kurds and our Syrian allies have the ISIS prisoners. If we're throwing them to the wolves then what incentive do they have to hang on to them?
Why are we still in the middle east? Wars should never last more that a couple of years. Even WW2 lasted less than a decade. Anything longer is useless. War should mean send in the troops, kill everyone and destroy everything, then come home to victory parades.
We need to be feared by our enemies and potential enemies. The mere mention of our name should invoke a feeling dread.
And did I forget to mention. All first strikes by our military should be with tactical nukes.
Hard to believe that Trump’s action in Syria will sway former supporters in the Senate to vote for his impeachment. And there’s enough time before the election to see how things play out. If there is a slaughter of Kurds then what you fear might happen. On the other hand, if Trump’s decision proves wise it would be a plus. Much depends on how much Erdogan was/is chastened by Trump’s warnings.

I’ve heard of the report of the bombing. Even if it turns out to be a bad decision (relative to the Kurds but not to the US),it’s no grounds for impeachment. If it was the 0bomb should have been impeached numerous times. Let the sancions against Turkey begib.
I don’t claim to know what exact safeguards Trump has put into place. I do, however, feel confident that Trump wouldn’t be careless enough to make a decision like this without taking the prisoners into account. There’s a lot that, for operational security reasons, we don’t know, so we’re just getting a part of the picture, not the whole story. We don’t even really know for sure who the Turks are attacking. It’s conceivable that this could be a limited strike against some Kurdish faction. In addition, just because we’re sitting this one out doesn’t mean the Turks have free reign. The Russians are still allied with Assad and will serve as a check. For all we know, Trump may have assurances from Putin to prevent the Kurds from getting over run.
What Trump is doing is called “biting the bullet.” If he had waited until the timing was propitious; that is, a time at which it would draw no criticism and cause no adverse consequences, they would never have been withdrawn. The same can be said of anywhere else our troops are stationed now if they were to be withdrawn.
