Is it not in the Constitution that DC was to never be considered for statehood? Or am I misremembering?

Not that the Left cares about the Constitution.

Statehood for DC must be a package deal with statehood for Puerto Rico.

One “D” and one “R”.

All or nothing.

Puerto Rico would be a second “D”, not an “R”, especially in the Senate, where they are trying to gain ground.

As with all things the Democrats say or do, what they say and do has nothing to do with what they are saying or doing.

They could not care less for the people living within the District, what they want is another two Senators and however many Representatives they can get.

Since most of DC came from Maryland, a simple solution is to allow citizens living in DC to vote in the Presidential election in Maryland (but no other offices).

But no one is keeping anyone in DC. If they really felt the need they could move a few miles to either Virginia or Maryland.

Really big time dumb and ignorant, broadcast by her as a scold.

And she won’t back down and even acknowledge she was wrong, but blames “the right” for pointing out she’s just wrong, way wrong historically.

“It’s where Black Americans fled the tyranny of slavery & towards greater freedom, to DC.”

That just can’t be explained away.

How about the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 passed by the Confederation Congress that outlawed slavery in what became the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin? Doesn’t that count?

DC did not exist when the Constitution went into effect in 1789. The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress, and the District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state..................

What is the process for admitting a state to the Union? Do the existing states get to vote on it?

The citizens of Puerto Rico are overwhelming apathetic with regard to statehood. In the 2017 referendum, only 23% of registered voters participated. The pro-status-quo group boycotted the referendum, and 500,000 blank ballots were later discovered. A completely dysfunctional and corrupt territorial government there.
