Justice Dept. IG referred James Comey for criminal prosecution
Washington Times ^ | September 18, 2019 | Jeff Mordock

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that he referred ex-FBI Director James Comey for criminal prosecution.

“We are required by the [Inspector General] Act to send information that we’ve identified that could plausibly be criminal to the Department of Justice,” said Mr. Horowitz, confirming what amounted to a criminal referral.

The Justice Department ultimately decided not to prosecute Mr. Comey despite Mr. Horowitz’s team concluding he improperly leaked information to the news media. The documents leaked by Mr. Comey were sensitive, but not classified.

Mr. Comey asked a law professor friend to share with The New York Times a memo detailing his conversations with President Trump in order to pressure the Justice Department to open an investigation of the president.

In a report released last month, Mr. Horowitz wrote that the former FBI director “set a dangerous example” when he shared the memos to push the Justice Department to act.

More distortion from the article:

“Mr. Comey in May 2017 asked a law professor friend to share with The New York Times a memo detailing his conversations with President Trump in order to pressure the Justice Department to open an investigation of the president.”

This is what Comey says but the article states it as fact. In the hearing itself today - Jordan notes that Comey’s statement that he said leaked to open an investigation contrasts with his conduct reported in the IG report.

The MSM has really put up a hall of mirrors.

Thanks for the clarification.

I don't remember hearing that Comey was

actually referred for prosecution for leaking the memos so

I thought this was the first official referral to the AG.

I think Horowitz in today's hearing

here is referring to a "lack of candor" finding and

not only the leaked memos.

Without a change of venue (Washington DC) there would not be any chance of a guilty verdict. The ‘Peers’ of Comey consider him a hero or ‘whistleblower’. Comey even refers to himself to a martyr and savior (St Thomas a Becket and yes, even Jesus)

“Breaking? This has been old news for weeks.”

I was thinking the same thing but maybe it was McCabe. This is Comey.

This is a perfect example of the Washington Post’s ignoring or dismissing REAL news. As opposed to FAKE news.

This is NOT NEWs. But the Post was busing chasing amnesiacs for information about Kavanaugh. Women who couldn’t REMEMBER what happened. Now, THAT’s the kind of news that is right up their back alley.

Was trying to skip through the video to find it but won’t have time until tonight. Tried to skip Twitter accounts for those who caught it but they are catching criminal referral questions about McCabe. Gah!

Not WaPo for sure, and that Comey’s keeping and leaking of note re: Trump meetings is old news. But the article also notes that Horowitz will review the inconsistencies between that Comey told the IG and what Comey told the Senate. This ends up being another report, some time in the future.

All three of the cranky old white guys, Comey, Crapper and Brennan, need to go to prison. Throw McCabe in with them.
