You'll enjoy this anecdote: When I was substituting, one experience was a three-day assignment in an ESL preschool class. It was supposed to be full day. The immigrant parents REFUSED to let their children stay for an afternoon nap after lunch, and they all brought their children home at 12:30. They weren't real fond of the school providing packaged breakfast and lunch either, and got better quality with ethnic and religious restrictions.

I give those immigrant parents credit. The ones I encountered didn't move to the US to cede control of their tots to the gov. The problems start when the conditioning changes what they accept.

I can relate; when my in-laws moved to this country decades ago they were horrified that the government offered freebies for people not working (it was easier to find jobs back then). They accepted nothing and went right to work, but they were very disturbed by the whole concept.
