Ukraine fears forced concessions at talks with Russia

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The Ukrainian president's envoy for peace talks with Russia-backed separatists expressed concern Friday that the leaders of France and Germany will push Ukraine to make unacceptable concessions to Russia.

Ukraine and Russia have been locked in a bitter standoff since 2014, when Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula and threw its weight behind separatists in eastern Ukraine. Hopes for a solution to the separatist conflict in eastern Ukraine, which has claimed more than 13,000 lives, were revived after political novice Volodymyr Zelenskiy was elected Ukrainian president in April.

But his envoy, Leonid Kuchma, told The Associated Press he is concerned that France and Germany, who are mediating the talks, will push President Zelenskiy to make trade-offs, such as approving a plan for the separatists to hold local elections in the areas they control without any oversight by the Ukrainian government.

The Ukrainians hate the Russians.

Was true then, now and in the future.

Ukraine is already working with NATO officials, they don’t trust Rusia.

They will be in NATO within 7-8 years.

One person who's very prominent in the best-written historical fiction (well researched and clearly delineates what's historical fact and what's speculative) is Princess Elizaveta of Kiev, who was the official wife (he also had a common law wife) of Harold Hardarda. He was the King of Norway who invaded England just prior to the Battle of Hastings. He lost, but it weakened English forces, which led to Norman victory in the Battle of Hastings.

According to the maps at that time, there were no "Ukranians". I'm surprised that no one is bringing up that perhaps there is no justification for a coup in what is now western Ukraine should control the rest of the country.

That second map I linked above is dated A.D. 1519...Crimea is identified, but still no Ukraine.

In fact your map at #76 says it all. All the territories it has attached to it by Russia and during the period it was a part of Russia.
It owes Russia everything it has and much more than just territory and for that reason that anti-Russian stance is amusing but it is mainly a result of lack of critical thinking in combination with Polish, Bolshevik and Nazi propaganda.

Nobody wants to join the Warsaw ...oops Russia Pact.

Perhaps if Russia would respect it’s own citizens rights to dissent, agree freely, have access to information not dictated by Putin etc., other nations would voluntarily ally with Russia.

Hopefully, the spirit of Solzhenitsyn and Sakharov will one day uplift the people again to real national pride. Not the limp puffery of Putin acting like a tin pot dictator. Russia deserves better.

You don’t understand irony, don’t you? One of many things you seem like don’t understand.

I like your post 89, it was a fine year for the world.

Your English is broken, where in Russia do you live?

Irony is not ironic unless it has truth in it. Unless you are confusing sarcasm.

The next time I visit Russia, let’s get together.
